Consumers! Choose any of the wide array of airports available to you! Don't like one? No prob; just go to the next one over, likely only a block away. They're located in the airport district. The market works!

Privatizing the TSA makes sense; they search you, they take any valuables they want, and that's their profit. If you don't have anything of value on your person or carryon, they can always invoke Prima Nocta instead.
No, it would be more like airports could choose the type of security they provide for their customers and individuals, if its important to them, could choose airports with accordance to that. Most individuals would gravitate towards airports that don't provide security that consists of the grabbing of genitals and private areas or a virtual strip search through a wave scanner. Thusly most airports would not provide their customers with that type of privacy-invasive security. Plus, government would waste less of taxpayers' money. Sounds great to me.
So like, under this model there are... what? A half dozen airports for every city?

Proposing to privatising regulatory authorities = another example of laughable ignorance about the topic under consideration.

GI I'mma let you finish and I know you were on your soapbox earlier about the state of education in the U.S. and the death of the American intellectual or whatever but I just want to point out that all the Ron Paul supporters on this board hail from strange countries to the north

airport screening and security was private in most airports before 9/11 no? They basically just told all those same people they were federal agents when they created the TSA.
But to the cutting of agencies, Ron Paul proposes firing the following people:
Commerce: 43,000 employees
Ed: 5,000 employees
Interior: 71,000 employees
Energy: 16,000 employees
HUD: 12,000 employees
So Ron Paul proposes adding 147,000 people to the unemployment rolls on day 1. Sweet, that should help.

Free market brother! The free market says that you won't choose airlines that regularly crash and kill hundreds of people, so the airlines will regulate themselves. Unless the tickets are $80 cheaper, then there's good odds you'll take your chances.

That wasn't my point anyway, because if what the TSA does would be handled (no pun intended) by the private sector, the junk-grabbing and the exploitive wave scanners would disappear from most, if not all airports. It would at least be a lot better than the monopoly of sexual harassment currently in place.

A lot of those people could get jobs in the private sector using their experience and academic knowledge. He also proposes lowering the corporate income tax from 35% to a top rate of 15% which would create a wealth of opportunities for entrepreneurs and innovators and the USA could become one of the best, if not the best, place to grow, develop and nurture business (especially if the corporate income tax would eventually become 0%). Not to mention he wants to get rid of all kinds of pointless regulations that inhibits newcomers to start businesses. All of this would create a plethora of jobs.

I really wish the international political scene were different, such that Babar's youthful libertarian impulses manifested in anarcho-syndicalism rather than the brutal invocations of trickle-down economics and laissez-faire free market capitalism that Paulist American libertarianism inevitably has to boil down to.

Regulation of tin cans carrying hundreds of people whizzing around tens of thousands of meters in the air is entirely unnecessary, of course.

I mean, you realize that the practical effect of laying off 150k people in one fell swoop would drastically alter the economic landscape of this country, right? Like, there are skilled, well-educated people in this country who are still unemployed from the mass layoffs of 2008-2010, and adding 150,000 more skilled, educated people to that would be absolutely catastrophic. Those figures don't even take into account the hundreds of thousands of private sector employees who have contracts with those agencies. Dropping the corporate tax rate would grow the economy, certainly, but not at a rate that would compensate for that kind of economic mayhem

We also have a case study in the same - look at the economic effects of the bout of government-driven lay-offs in Britain with the recent change in government.

I think ascribing it to the international political scene is pretty charitable, actually!

We also have a case study in the same - look at the economic effects of the bout of government-driven lay-offs in Britain with the recent change in government.
We also have a case study where a government recklessly runs its economy with a deficit, accumulating in a public debt larger than the GDP in Greece. Except the USA is a lot bigger country with a lot bigger economy so it would have devastating effects not only in the US, but all over the world. When thinking about politics I think about what would be best for the year 2050. Thinking about politics in 4-year interims only distorts what the most beneficial action is. Ron Paul isn't saying that all will be dandy if he becomes president, it will be very tough and initially there would be massive lay-offs in government-provided jobs but in the long run that will lead to more prosperity than if the policies of today will prevail.

Basically what you're saying is 'I wish Babar was a socialist and not a capitalist'. Sorry, I believe in keeping the fruit of one's labour and don't believe in the involuntary redistribution of wealth. But I have no qualms with people not sharing my views and don't think any of you are retarded or crazy.

Lots of economies have had debt higher than GDP, including the US during boom times.
