I'm about to do a blog post on the Berkeley patch about the NYU talk.

Needed to look back at the "Im God" lyrics and realized I still don't understand these - they're all video game references, right?

Huh, I always thought that was "shouts out to Tune", as in Tunechi, as in wasn't that back when Lil Wayne was still in the pen? I dunno.

Tune B is one of his friends, who I guess was in jail.  He's on a couple Lil B tracks.  "I'm God" was 2009, so Weezy wasn't in jail then.

Rocky...any chance this is ASAP? Trying to remember the timeline on that. As far as I know Rocky wasn't in prison but I wouldn't put Lil B passed writing as if he was.

Halo...an chance the rapper Halo? Heard a guy named Halo on that "Sudden Death" mixtape that came out last week.

Nobody gave a shit about Rocky in 2009.  Especially not Lil B, who only gave a shit about Rocky when he got a major label deal on the strength of poaching Lil B's producers.  I think he might be the only rapper that Lil B has seriously dissed.

Dissing Drake is like Eminem making a joke about Britney Spears.

If the interview in Wire is anything to go by I can't imagine that lecture being anything other than a total waste of time for all involved. He doesn't seem interesting at all outside of his music.

OK. Probably bad luck on my part. Link something maybe? He's come across as deeply boring in the couple of interviews I've read so I'd be interested in reading something interesting.

I don't think interviews are his best medium, actually. I saw one on youtube where he was being interviewed by an SF Weekly journalist and he seemed uncomfortable. He's more at ease when he's developing his own ideas on his own impetus, rather than being poked and prodded.

well as soon as i posted that i thought "you know, it's kind of bullshit that i said that because i don't remember where any of those interviews were." except for the nardwuar interview.

which is awesome

I thought this one was pretty good -

Is Lil B Still Your God? VIBE Decodes The Based Misfit's Odd Scripture

He's not at the top of his game, but those comments at the bottom of page 1 about weirdness & homelessness are pretty radical.

And the one I posted a page ago.

http://www.fuse.tv/2012/03/exclusive-lil-b-speaks-on-lecturing-at-nyu

Quote
We chat about Madonna's playful use of his lyric, "Hoes on my d*ck 'cause I look like Madonna." In the studio recently, she reportedly sang, "Hoes on my d*ck 'cause I am Madonna."

"I love it, man!" he says. "Oh my god!"

"That’s funny because I feel like I am the hip hop Madonna," he adds. "I love Madonna so much because, like, I been in the game a while too. My mom is a big fan of Madonna! I got Madonna swag in me." Then he goes off the rails a bit, raising his voice: "I been rockin' with Madonna ... you feel me?" Then he adds, "I been rocking with Backstreet Boys," and sings their hit "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)."

and, you know, if you think that "He doesn't seem interesting at all outside of his music," just follow him on twitter FFS

really dislike the interviewer but some interesting answers.

Quote
Why do you think like indie rock sites are posting your music?

Lil B: Because I'm a rebel. I'm a punk. I'm like a rocker in the rap world. I'm one of the outcasts. The motherfucking guy that's just fucking crazy. Playing pranks on the fucking football stars and the athletes and then fucking their sisters. I think they see the raw emotion in me, because at the end of the day, I make music at the realest point. I try to convey an emotion. That's why I really got into my production. I really convey emotions over beats now. My sound quality and teaching myself how to do mixing, it's giving me my own style. Some songs it needs to be how it is. Some songs it's not the highest quality and it's not for that. It's for the emotion. Real music. People will recognize what real music is regardless. I got hella lo-fi shit I'm listening to because I love it, and it's helping me through my day, you know?

Oh, ok, I get why I don't get it now. I thought the beats were very good (kid's got a good ear, that's for sure) but thematically it's a trainwreck. Still, there's lots of corners of Basedworld to still check out.
