Orleans Parish is one of my absolute favorite indie rock albums, period. In fact, I think I've got it ranked as my favorite album of 1996 at rateyourmusic.com.

I found it on vinyl at my local a couple years ago. Had the price tag on it from 1996 or whatever when it came in. The guy working said something like, "Man we musta had that thing forever what's it sound like?" So I says "Ugh, Umm...it's kinda 90's Indie rock sounding, but really really good" I think I nailed it...ha. I was happy to find that on vinyl because it has such a cool cover in addition to being great.

Yeah, I would like to have it on vinyl, myself. Their first record -- The Other Palm Springs, I think? -- isn't too good, but the third one (The Blue Law) is almost as good as Orleans Parish.

Some of my favorite bands that were broken up are getting back together for reunion shows/ or tours.
Main one being The Promise Ring who I am dying to see.
30 degrees everywhere, is such a good album, but I love anything and everything they've done.
I'm trying to plan on seeing them in NYC in May.

I'm all about 90's indie and emo bands getting back together.

I would've liked it if the smoking popes stopped making music in 97.

And Floor, not emo, had been broken up, and are now playing shows, so I'm probably seeing them in a week. Tales of Lolita is a song you should hear by them if you havent.

I'm shooting for the May one because it gives me time, and my birthday is the 27th so its an excuse to give myself the greatest reward for making it to a quarter of a century.

When I saw them last, in Iowa City some years ago, there was a guy who yelled out "I never talked to the Russians!" and Davy immediately, very excitedly, pointed at the guy and yelled "NEITHER DID IIIIII" and then they played a different song.

I don't know if this counts, but—and I've repped for these guys before—I am really super fond of The Donner Party.  They had two albums (and a third release that was the two albums plus some live tracks) and then disappeared off the face of the Earth... as a band.  The main dude went on to become Heatmiser and Quasi and play with Elliott Smith, but their status as a band is minute enough that all of the sites like Allmusic (last I checked) mistakenly lumped their albums in with another band of the same name.  They did that "When I Was a Baby" song that The New Pornographers covered.

I would totally go to one of those Promise Ring shows. I only saw them once, inexplicably opening for Bad Religion in 2000, and there was so much awful heckling.

The Bronx successfully buried one of the best punk albums ever beneath two followups with the same title. That first album slays, though.

That record is pretty great. The second one is all right. The mariachi stuff they've been doing is weird as shit.

This reminds me that I loved two Every Time I Die records and then completely stopped caring about them (though this may have coincided with me getting over metalcore in general).

And some other band I love and still listen to, and I am sure no one in the world cares about except me, was a power poppish outfit from Seattle called Super Deluxe. They put out two records in 1995 and 1997 that I *loooooved* in teenage fashion. Then they disappeared and didn't put out another album until 2005, which I don't own and haven't heard and am considering buying right now because I want to know!

The second and third are both okay, but the first is just on another level. And they're all called "The Bronx"! Troubling!

i saw them open for Six Organs of Admittance, and they played between SOAM and Major Stars. god were they awful. i went outside and hung out on the sidewalk rather than hear any more of their stuff.

Should have been a big as the Wedding Present. I saw them live twice and they were shambolic (-ally brilliant), but their 'There Are Eight Million Stories' mini-LP and couple of singles (especially 'This Town', linked above) are stonewall classics of the C86 era.

For me this would be Superdrag. Their first album, Regretfully Yours is SO FUCKING GOOD. And I mean, the rest of their stuff is okay, but it's just okay and really kinda forgettable. I remember when "Sucked Out" was on MTV all the time and for awhile I hated it, but then one day for no reason at all I decided it was okay, and went to the music store to get the CD. They didn't have it in stock and special ordered it for me. And then I listened to "Sucked Out" a couple times and not much else, and then a couple years later a friend of mine was excited that I owned a copy of it and we put it on and ROCKED THE FUCK OUT, and man, about once every couple weeks or so over the course of the many many years that have passed in that day, I still put that album on and ROCK THE FUCK OUT.

It's such a profoundly great record, a perfect power pop nugget with seriously sophisticated pop songwriting and yet it's kind of inappropriately heavy and rocking due to the grunge era production. I occasionally pull it out and am always surprised that it never gets any less amazing - every few years I go on a bender where I listen to it over and over and over. I love the way the first three songs just run right into each other without stopping - it's an amphetamine pop rush. Unfortunately, they never remotely made another album 1/10 as good as this one, regardless of what people tried their hardest to convince themselves to believe.
