So I almost enjoyed The Hunter quite a bit, awesome scenery and animals and a couple of really affecting moments, but also one or 2 script issues which completely threw me out of the film. An adorable child died and it was such an obvious plot contrivance that it was not even sad, and man, killing off your adorable child characters should be like, a recipe for sad. And there were one or two moments that made me so 'zah? why did that happen?' and then I watched the deleted scenes and the deleted scenes made those bits make sense! Why did they cut them, then?
BUT the film is partly about Willem Dafoe trying to see whether any of these are still alive, so that's pretty cool.

Momus was absolutely right about Lost In Translation, as he is about most things.

i didn't need anyone to relate to, i just didn't find anything particularly interesting or resonant about watching someone be self-absorbed and irresponsible inside of prettily framed shots for 90 minutes

there were a few good moments

I know it's not the most important angle to take, but dudes, she was fucking 23 years old when she made that shit. I think that's pretty astounding.

Who are you guys kidding, you guys probably all loved Lost in Translation when it came out

Saw that new Spidey, classic case of low expectations massively exceeded. I even did a skyward fist pump at one point.

Honestly, I kind of dig it: Having competing versions of the same mythology, squeezing a property for everything it's worth, making creative decisions based solely on commercial considerations; all these things make it feel more comic-book-ey to me.

Alls I know is I won't be happy 'til I see an X-Force vs Generation X movie.

Alpha Flight movie, produced on a Canadian budget

I well, then it turns out there's no love in my heart either. There isn't any for that film.

I did not like it at all, and I remember really wanting to like it, since I loved The Virgin Suicides (no idea if that would hold up for me; I should watch it again sometime). And, you know, Bill Murray. And at that point ScarJo was just Hot-Girl-From-Ghost-World, so I didn't wish her any specific harm, yet.

I saw Savages yesterday after making a joke about it in a tweet and then having a couple people respond with "Oh yeah let's go see that." When the three leads weren't on screen, it was meaningless campy fun in the manner of Oliver Stone; when the three leads were on screen it was like something you guys would've been watching on the WB in 2007 by way of one of those shitty direct-to-video Tarantino-esque crime movies. Like, I have no idea why they made this Blake Lively person do all the heavy lifting in the beginning--is there some crossover appeal there from some other property I'm unfamiliar with? I was expecting like, bad acting, but not the complete lack of affect/apparent interest. What really strains your capacity to suspend disbelief is the notion that anyone would go to so much trouble to get her back.

All that being said, Salma Hayek and Benicio del Toro were pretty great. The movie would've been considerably better if the focus had been on them.

I liked it.  But then again I saw it while jetlagged in Ireland.  Maybe that helped.  (Haven't seen it since.)

Ah. There were definitely some deeply problematic crowd reactions involving Lively's character: basically every time she got punched or slapped or roughed up or kidnapped or denied some luxury, there were laughs and cheers.

Yeah, she's pretty atrocious in Gossip Girl, too (acting-wise, not like a Chuck Bass villain character), so I imagine people are primed to take her unseriously.

Yeah, she's basically good at looking hot in expensive clothes and not much else; she spends most of her time in Gossip Girl looking bewildered and/or half-asleep while everyone else hams it up.

One man was rushed to a Charlotte hospital after overdosing on heroin before seeing the movie 'Ted' with friends.

The 22-year-old Indian Land man lost consciousness while consuming heroin in the parking lot of Starlight Cinemas at 11240 North Tryon Street in north Charlotte around 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department report.

The report states the man "wanted to consume heroin before going in to see the movie 'Ted.'"

I liked the life aquatic and find all of that guy's other films completely incomprehensible.  I don't even think they're bad they're just completely alien to my own understanding and interpretation of the world.

Not even trying to play the crotchety old man card either.  I can have an opinion about for example the quality of Jezebel's writing or whatever we decided to care about this decade, just this particular thing seems to elude me completely.

yeah, I just do not get Wes Anderson films. I know that I sometimes have questionable taste in movies, but every time I watch them I feel like I am missing something because everyone is jizzing their pants and I am unimpressed.

I saw THEY LIVE! yesterday. it was really fun! aside from the awkward 15 minute brutal whole body fight the two best buds had about putting on sunglasses, but that's ok. I'm sad I hadn't seen it sooner or else I would have added some stuff to my "I am the 1%" halloween costume from last year.
