Despite the wedding band, the kids and his presence in a Rick Santorum music video, that bass player is clearly the gayest dude

I like that they don't watch TV or read magazines (wait, how do they even know about Santorum?) for fear of being exposed to filth, but they have a youtube channel with open comments

Haha, this was my thinking, too. Man, I see they're from Oklahoma. In case none of y'all have been there, that is the worst place on the planet. I feel bad for these girls.

Indiana is definitely the worst place I've ever been

I wasn't a huge fan of Missouri either, but it was definitely better than Indiana

I don't know a thing about Indiana, despite having lived kind of next to it all those years.

Sometimes I think people are envisioning Gary, IN whenever they talk shit on Indiana. It's not all like that.

But whatever, I'm a big fan of Indiana. I don't want to get into a thing, though.

One of my good friends was from small-town Indiana.  From his description it was mostly meth and sadness.

Yeah, some of it is like rural Kentucky without the bourbon

I feel like we can say this about a lot of small town areas, though. I hear that a lot about Kansas, too.

I think Southern Indiana can be really beautiful. I've also enjoyed the times I spent in Bloomington. Ultimately, though, I think I just have fond memories of the times I've had there and the people I met. I'll admit, that's not a very objective way to evaluate a place.

And I also admit, I get this peculiar rankle when the people who shit on Indiana are from Chicago. It bugs me the same way it would bug me when NYCers would refer to "fly-over states." But it's all love, Blucas. We should go to Indiana sometime!

You don't have to love Indiana to recognize it's better than Oklahoma.

I'm pretty sure I've never been to Indiana, and I don't know anything about it aside from that great Gene Hackman movie, but there's no way in hell it could be worse than the I-40 corridor through Oklahoma

My anti-IN argument has always been that, while lots of states have either post-urban/post-industrial decay OR depressing small-town methness, very few have both. PA does, but it has Philly. MI does, but I'll take Detroit over Gary and Hammond.

Bloomington's a pretty nice place, I guess, but IMHO it's well below par for "Eh, we have a cool college town! Eh? Eh?"

I've never spent any time in OK.

Eh, New York has all those problems, and it's not like the fact of NYC's existence remediates the god-awfulness that is the Southern Tier. BUT, the Finger Lakes do, and y'know, while there's maybe not much between Mishawaka and Indianapolis, surely if you gave a shit you could find something worth doing. But I mean, I'm some kinda pan-midwesternist and seem to find something to like nearly anywhere I end up, so who knows. Except for those two weeks in Waukegan. I guess I liked the fries ok at the little shake shack.

Blucas, I think you're really underselling Bloomington. The music scene alone pushes it beyond "college town." But again, I'm not sure I'm really going to convince you. I just have a bit of a chip on my shoulder about Indiana and so I always feel compelled to register my affection.

Well I love provincial homerism (unless it's coming from someone in a major market in which case it becomes morally repugnant) so, Cap'n: what're the three neatest things about Indiana?
