So a friend lent me his ride for the weekend, an old Honda that I just noticed has a cassette slot under the CD player. I'm so excited to finally hear all my new tapes (thanks, lucky strike) that I might drive to the coast and back this weekend. He's cool with it!

oh yeah, the road-trip happened and i discovered that pictureplane are a new favourite. can review the lot, the wood wine shipping box full of tapes in the passenger seat made a fine travel companion and i got to hear them all at least twice.

lucky strike, is there a reason beyond style for having a separate little shelf for each cassette? do they hurt each other or something?

the only thing i can imagine is it would be really annoying to try and Jenga-style select Jagged Little Pill from the bottom of the stack

Yeah, but if you didn't have those separate shelves you wouldn't stack them Jenga style, you'd line 'em up tall along a shelf like books!*

*Or, like me, have everything haphazardly just kind of left on whatever shelf it appeared on last time you moved house.

here are pictures of most of my tapes:

ten cent tape kind of thing

the tapes that all look similar are a series of tapes that are narratives about famous classical composers' lives and their music.

the blue tape (top row, third from right) is the soundtrack for Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence by R. Sakamoto.

note the Joseph Campbell box set. i was overjoyed to find that.

show me yours

another one that's good is the infinity pushups summer jams cassette.

a bunch of those other tapes sounded like weird art-house minimalistic conceptual noise. there's a skinny naked androgenous person painted grey and curled in a ball inside a clear acrylic egg, with an 8' projection of the death spasm of a common housefly flickering behind it repeatedly - this is what's playing.
