Promote Your Locals

I thought it would be fun to point out worthy small-time bands in your local area that might be deserving of wider attention, or at least be of interest to others on this board. I'll start with two:
Summer People (Binghamton/Ithaca, NY)
They've got a twisted blues undercurrent and a prominent Nick Cave influence ("Hired Liars" is a dead ringer for the Birthday Party.) Caught them a couple years a go and was impressed but not blown away. Saw them again last November and they'd really stepped up their game on all fronts. Two full-lengths and a split with OH band HotChaCha so far. Played at SXSW this year so I guess they're making some moves. I suggest starting with the tunes "Fish Fry #1" or "Elsewhere" but really it's all good:

Cattle Drums (Oneonta, NY)
Love these guys. They've got a Pavement/Archers Of Loaf thing going on with a harsh-voiced singer and nonsensical non-sequitur lyrics. Their EP
The Boy Kisser Sessions
is fantastic. "Sluts And Coconuts" shows them at their most Malkmus-like. "Two Pigeons" adds a banjo and a bit of a country lilt. Check it out:

Both bands are great live and have been doing at least limited touring. I recommend seeing either if you get the chance.

OU cool! I work at a summer camp near Binghamton, and it would be awesome to catch them if they play a show.
Do you live in that area? Where do the cool band shows happen?
Days off would be way cooler if I could go to shows this time around.

Adro, yes I live in the area but I have no idea where cool shows happen in Binghamton (most of them take place in Ithaca.) Your best bet is probably the facebook pages of the bands I mentioned, or check out Ithaca Underground which books cool shows in that area. I know Cattle Drums have also played at the Black Oak Tavern in Oneonta although I haven't been there myself. Where is your summer camp?

In Friendsville, Pa. Camp Choconut is the name. Theres so much nothing there, that we have to go grocery shopping on the Ny side.
I'll have to do more research on the area, I visited Ithaca on one of my days off and went to this restaurant called Moosewood. It was delish, but otherwise i know nothing of the area.
Here is a local band I like a lot. My friend plays guitar in it.

Ah, ok. Well, feel free to pm me if you need suggestions. I'm not exactly an expert in cool things to do, but I'll help out if I can.
