Yeah, I wasn't implying an important character arc, just that his role in the Sack of Kings' Landing during Robert's Rebellion is super-important for all the Dorne stuff later on (and for the Mountain/Oberyn trial-by-combat, and the Aegon-is-still-alive reveal), so they'll *have* to talk about it at that point, so it's weird that they didn't just do it when Tyrion sent Marcella to Dorne.

It's a super minor thing, obviously, I was just using it as one example of the way the show hasn't concerned itself with the history of the world much, to its detriment, imo.

Yeah I saw that yesterday, and the question I have is, they said "It's not a choice, it's not a political statement. We just had to use whatever head we had around." but why did they have GWB's severed head lying around?

The best quip I saw was on Metafilter:

If I were GRR I'd invite all the hardest of the hardcore fanboys to a gala reception once I'd finished the last book and then consume the only copy of the manuscript in front of them and vomit it into their faces

Also, it's rather disconcerting that there's been one sample chapter, and two chapters he's read aloud at cons, but no spoilers because basically nothing happens in any of them. The last two books really need to be as long and eventful as SoS for him to wrap the series up in any way that would be remotely satisfying.

Did you see the thing where it was almost Dominic West, but he backed out partway through contract negotiations?

Yeah and I never really considered him to be all that young--considering dude lived two separate lives as a crow and later King Beyond the Wall it made some sense to me that he'd be a bit older.

So apparently the magical torture dildo, through its torturous magical dildonics, could be used to disfigure or to merely inflict the pain without the accompanying crippling anal jellification.

Yeah I would prefer you don't spoil any of that for me

Though I have to say, deciding to read the books = GREAT IDEA. Clash of Kings is like a million times more awesome than the show was, and the show was really, really good!

I am halfway through Storm of Swords! I really don’t ever read fantasy—the last of this sort I tackled were LotR, the Dark is Rising series, and the Redwall series, and that was in elementary school—but shit has been perfect to read whenever I have insomnia, which has been every night this summer.

The one downside is that I am historically terrible at remembering names of characters in works of fiction, so, yeah, that is hard.

Also, Brian, I showed Jacob the cat video and he damn near puked with laughter. “This is the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
