So the Orioles signing him is essentially the album "Hurley".

Here's an interesting run-down on how the new draft-rules worked:
http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/2012/06/new-draft-rules-create-confusion-run-on-college-seniors/

Spoiler: New draft rules were supposed to encourage teams to draft based on talent rather than signability. New draft rules did not succeed in doing so.

Playing his first game in the Marlins' new ballpark, Uggla hit two homers, including a direct hit off the home-run sculpture that reverberated throughout the stadium, and the Atlanta Braves drubbed Miami 11-0 Tuesday night.

One really shouldn't hit the home-run sculpture, it only angers the home-run sculpture.

Man I just blitzed through the game recap clips from last night's action. I really have to watch the archive of that Mets/Nats game now. Jordany Valdespin at shortstop looks like it was COMEDY

The Norfolk Tides now feature Jamie Moyer, Nate McLouth, Miguel Tejada, Bill Hall and Brian Roberts. They are Weezer. I'm considering driving up for a game.

Oh! Roy Oswalt is making his first rehab start for Texas's AAA affiliate tomorrow night in Omaha. Looks like I'm going to have to go drink some dollar beers and yell stuff at him.

Hey distance, did you make it out to any of those games this weekend after the one Friday got rained out?

sorry haven't stopped in in a few.. no i didn't.  friday night was the last night of my gf's vacation and we saw what was coming and bailed on going to the game.  i've been assured that i'll get to go to a game later this year.  i was disappointed, but at the same time i'm glad i didn't hang out in that weather to not get to see a game.

Oh shit, Michael "The Fort" McKenry just doubled in Clint Barmes to charge Aroldis Chapman's first-ever earned run in the 10th.

This game has been absolutely riveting

Oh, and I didn't make it out to that ballgame tonight, and so of course I missed Wil Myers hitting a grand slam off of Roy Oswalt. Dammit.

Guys, Wil Myers is really good. REALLY good.

I don't know anything about Andrelton Simmons beyond those two clips, but that's a winning smile in that second one. I also see he's part of the esteemed Braves from Curaçao club, along with Jair Jurrjens and Andruw Jones.

Man I haven't really watched the Royals play for a few years but these cats need to up their defense. Misread flies, missed grounders, and an hilarious moment when they had Tabata caught in a rundown between 1st and 2nd and nobody in the infield was paying attention to Alvarez on 3rd, and Pedro just casually jogged to the plate to score.

Ahh, I saw that play in the Yahoo box score, but it read really weird: "- P. Alvarez caught stealing, J. Tabata out at second" and I was like, "Wait, what?" I'm really glad that they pulled off a play that we attempt in our Sunday pickup games all the damn time.

Yeah, I'd be feeling pretty bad for Pastornicky right now if I wasn't so busy being jazzed about Simmons.

Man, Braves/Jays game was weird tonight. Braves were 0-12 with runners in scoring position, they had a run walked in, scored on a balk, and walked off in the bottom of the 10th when Heyward stole 3rd and Arencibia short-hopped the throwdown and it bounced into the outfield which allowed Heyward to score. Super fun game, though.

Huh? Did they pull their starter in the fourth inning or something? Guess I need to go read the recap.

Yeah, Kevin Millwood of all people started the game and threw 6 innings, then had to leave with injury. Then 4 pitchers combined to throw the 7th and 8th, and Wilhelmsen finished the 9th.

I think the wind took a home run away from me in our Sunday pickup game today. Homers are tough to come by, because the field we play on only has about 10 feet of fence in left field, so that segment is the only spot to hit an official home run. Only a few of us have hit one, although a lot of us have hit balls far enough to be a home run, but just have gone to the rest of the outfield. I tend to go to right field a lot, and have definitely hit some bombs that way, but today I jumped on one early and took it to left, towering fly ball that got caught up in 20 mph winds blowing directly in, and was caught probably 10 feet in front of the fence.
