So this is the thread where you discover a song on your iPod/hard-drive/other portable music player that you have absolutely no idea where it came from.  How the hell does this happen?

This morning on the way to work, One Shining Moment by David Barrett inexplicably started playing on my iPod.  For those who aren't familiar, this is the song they play at the end of the NCAA Tournament broadcast every year for as long as I can remember.  It is a truly awful song, perhaps the nadir of sports-broadcast songwriting (the zenith being, of course, John Tesh's brilliant "NBA on NBC" theme, which is now sadly lost to the ages).

I have less than no idea how this could have gotten on my iPod.  i KNOW I didn't download it.  I can't think of a single person that would have tried to put this on a CD-R for me; the only person I know who professes to even like the damn song doesn't even know how to use a remote control, much less a computer.  Was this a bonus track on some album I ripped to my laptop?  The Joanna Newsom record perhaps.

I am just going to have to accept the fact that I will never know.  Hercule Poirot and Jessica Fletcher together couldn't solve this mystery.

This happens to me fairly often, I think it's because I sometimes download stuff from mp3 blogs, then don't listen to it for weeks. Then it finally comes up on shuffle and sometimes I'm like "WTF this sucks" or "hmm this is kind of good."

Sort of a similar theme:

I borrowed the audio tapes of a radio show out of the library and made copies of them on to blank tapes, and listened to them pretty frequently for a pretty long time, and had kind of memorized it-- and then like two years after I'd made them, all of a sudden at the very end of one of the tapes, after about a minute of silence, there's a sound bite from the Simpsons: Flanders says something like "Uh Homer, I'm gonna take the kids to visit their grandmother-- family only," and Homer says "Fine, no reporters", and then it just cuts off and the tape stops.

It had never been there before. It kinda scared the christ out of me because it had this special jarring piercing quality from being just entirely unexpected and to this day I have no idea where it came from

my best friend, dan, has randomly added albums on his itunes. he can't figure it out. he got the moon & antarctica by modest mouse for free because it was just on his itunes one day. i dunno enough about computers to figure out how it gets on there, but free is my favorite number, so why not?

"PodZilla"

cute, no? Smile

the last thing that i was like "?" with was Crebain...which i discovered i accidentally downloaded from the boyfriend's computer in stealing his biggie albums...

but i do the mp3 blog thing a lot too and end up with stuff that totally perplexes me sometimes...or in the case of Metric, makes me go insane searching stores for the album.

Doesn't "Calculation Theme" remind you of Mirah's "Million Miles"? I love it.

Yeah, but I am pretty DAMN sure that I didn't download "This Shining Moment" from an mp3 blog.

I really wish I had moments like this, but with only 5 gigs on my Zen Micro, there's really just no room. I know well every song that's on there, because there are hardly any.  Crying or Very sad
