how about linking me to your towns radio stations that aren't owned by clear channel or whatever? i'm mostly interested in stuff that gets broadcasted on the airwaves. i'll start with mine.

www.ktru.org/ (sadly, now stream-only UH brought this station from Rice in an effective effort to destroy free radio and replace it with distracting NPR propaganda about 5 year old technology. now they have two stations. one plays 24/7 classical and the other plays 24/7 a prarie car talk is it anyway things considered bullshit. i'll personally issue the grains of salt to the slower readers.)

www.kpft.org (OG houston pacificia station. powerful all around.)

http://www.kcohradio.com/home/default.asp (this is on the am band and the station is at the end of the street from where i live. it's community-based [3rd ward] as hell, which is great, but the commercials get annoying. tons of fantastic funk gets played from about 7pm-11pm, though. highly recommended during those hours)

ok, hook me up!

I like these three a lot:

http://wncw.org/ (Spindale, North Carolina) old time, bluegrass, reggae, dub, weird rock, Zappa
http://www.wwoz.org/ (New Orleans) dixieland jazz, blues, zydeco
http://www.wdav.org (Davidson, NC) staunch 24/7 classical station in an era when a lot of classical stations are moving more toward an NPR news format

http://www.weciradio.org/

WECI 91.5 FM out of Richmond, IN. My alma-mater's radio station and one I worked at for a brief period that had me holding every position from record librarian-to-DJ-to-station manager and whatever else was in between. Can't say I listen to WECI much anymore though.

A quick look at the schedule indicates that Clay's Country Classics is gone... he was over 80 and held the late-late night slot. I'm a little worried about him now. But Mae is still holding down the mid-morning rotation with old country tunes. And, of course, Big Don Allen continues to hold his rock-solid ever-coveted Friday 6-9 slot.

It's a lot of whatever, but if you're looking for some new radio streams, give it a shot.

I don't listen to much radio, but when I do I listen to Melbourne's triple R.  It's usually obscure/mouldy classic rock or less mouldy indie, but generally interesting.

Streaming online radio playing metal (a large variety, but nothing lighter than folk metal, and sometimes as harsh as pornogrind), funded through donations. The only online radio I listen to.

Now that we no longer own a car, I don't even have a means of listening to non-streaming radio.

http://www.wmse.org > awesome college radio with a wide variety of shows. a little hit or miss simply due to the sheer variety of music being played, but tends to be awesome.

http://riverwestradio.com/ > i believe this one is streaming only, but super cool. they broadcast from the window of a local video shop.

MIT's station. i mainly listen to the Breakfast of Champions (indie rock, 8-10 M-F).  Some other good shows are The Intercontinental (non-English music) and Pontoon Palace (Rich Pontius (ex-SBHotM) and his rambling, all-over-the-map show).

oh, and The Scene (7-8AM, Fridays) w/ Nick Saloman (aka Bevis Frond) and Paul Simmons is quite excellent too.

Wait dogg you mean to tell me you live in the third ward?  We like neighbors.  For real!

Come holla atcha boy over on Telephone Rd. any time you feel like eating some tacos and playing paintball!

On topic me and my wife are both dues-paid KPFT members.  Hadn't heard of KCOH though.  Sounds dope, I'll check it out!

And similarly 2XX which doubles as the multicultural radio station around here.

There's also Artsound which is good sometimes...

Is that pronounced "double x"?

'two double ex' if you like... :-) they started out on the AM band, which historically had call signs in the 2(+2letters) format for NSW/ACT, so the local ABC was 2CN, Radio National was 2CY, and there was 2CC and another commercial one. cf 2JJ (which was what JJJ was before it went to FM and then went National)

2XX is on the ANU campus and fills the campus radio niche pretty well.
