What's up with $30.00 action figures though, for real?
nostalgia + disposable income = profit for them?
People spend three times as much on old figures, so maybe these seem like a good deal.

Yeah, but these are brand new! I mean, they say "For Collectors" right on the package, so they're obviously not for kids, but jesus.
In related news, an original Jawa action figure (from the first Star Wars movie), still in its original packaging, recently sold for $2,650 on ebay.

Ohhhh man, I just realized what I'm getting Finn for his birthday. Apparently there's a new TMNT cartoon out? And there are new toys to go along with it? And they're AWESOME? I was never a TMNT fan as a kid, and I've always thought the whole thing was beyond ridiculous, but these toys are pretty incredible looking. Check out the Secret Sewer Lair!
And Donatello!
The entire line can be viewed here:

I had a bunch of TMNT toys as a boy, but never the Sewer Lair. Such extravagance!

I know I've mentioned it before, but the
TMNT Forever
TV-movie, based in the universe of the most recent TMNT cartoon, is surprisingly good. The premise is that the turtles of that cartoon travel between different dimensions, and each of those dimensions is a different iteration of the real-world TMNT franchise. The movie really plays up the ridiculous hammy goofiness of the 1980s turtles, and the whole thing's immensely fun.

Whoaaa, I would have died if someone gave me that for a present as a kid. I had a bunch of the action figures and I STILL have the pizza hut poster with all of them in a rock band on the door to my old room at my mom's house (which is now my step dad's train room). There's a red lipstick kiss over Raphael because he was my boyfriend.
Look how cool April looks! She's all hip to the mainframe. And my boy Raphael operating the biggest gun, yeahhh. Where's Casey Jones? I kind of looked like him at work yesterday.

Man, I thought my Castle Grayskull was the coolest when I was a kid, but that is much more amazing.

We used to make mutagen out of extra pizza dough (uncooked) and green dish soap when we were kids.

I too was Turtles obsessed as a kid. I went through a period of watching the first live-action movie daily. The second one, too, cuz I wanted to be Keno.

Good question! One can only hope he shows up soon.
But seriously, the Secret Sewer Lair is everything you want in a playset. The attention to detail is commendable -- look at all the handholds along the sewer pipes! And the dumpster periscope!
The only thing I can think of that comes close is the legendary Terror Drome from GI Joe.

That's pretty sweet! I never had any Mighty Max stuff that I can remember, but it reminds me of my other all-time favorite playset, the Dungeons & Dragons Fortress of Fangs.

The GI Joe General was pretty sweet, too. It had a helicopter on it. And cluster bombs.

Those big playsets were too rich for my family's pocket. I did get a windfall of Dino-Riders stuff one birthday after they were discontinued and placed on extreme going-out-of-business clearance at Lionel Toy Warehouse

Not to mention the 7-ft. USS Flagg. I asked Santa for that shit every year but never actually saw one in person.

It's sad how far we've fallen. This is what passes for a playset these days:

Supposed to be the Tower of Omens for the new Thundercats line (the figures themselves are actually pretty excellent).

I always wanted the playsets but never got any of them, though, in retrospect a lot of them look lame and way smaller than my child-brain expected them to be. I guess I did have Mumm-Ra's Tomb, which was kind of dope because you could transform that decayed form into Mumm-Ra, the Ever-Living.

They look small now, but I can assure you -- the Terror Drome and Fortress of Fangs loom large in my memory. Those plus the He-Man castles were the only big playsets I ever had.
Oddly, while we had TONS of Star Wars action figures, we never had any of the playsets and very few of the vehicles.

Actually, I just added it today. Topless Robot, one of my favorite blogs, posted the TMNT images today, and I followed the link to MTV Geek, which I never knew existed. I didn't even notice that last link I posted was theirs -- I just googled "Thundercats toys 2011."
Basically, if it's a blog that posts news about science fiction movies and pictures of awesome toys, I'll put it in my RSS.
I miss Toy Fare magazine.

The only Star Wars toy I ever owned—that I know of—was Hammerhead. Which was fine with me, because that was exactly the kind of thing I thought was cool as a kid.
