Hi! are there any other toy collectors on here? What kinds of things do you collect? What are you looking forward to? am i all alone in my strange woman-child love of plasticy figures?
Will someone buy me more Kubricks?
so many questions.

TOYFARE may actually be my favorite magazine in the world, though i don't really collect toys anymore. i like to buy it and look at the pictures and feel happy that OTHER people collect toys, even if i don't have the money to do it. really. i have mad respect for toy collectors.
the only toys i ever collected were vintage star wars action figures in middle school, and that was 11-12 years ago. i remember it all very fondly, and when i'm in a comic book store these days, i always spend more time oggling the toys than i do selecting a comic book.

Question: what are Kubricks? (I am guessing they are not items such as: Bloodthirsty Jack Torrance, with Axe!)
I'm posting mainly so this thread is bumped, because my interest is piqued, and I am clamouring to hear toy collecting exploits and anecdotes or what have you.

kubricks are small (lego-esque, but don't call them legos to collectors) block figures from Japan. They are designed by Medicom Toys, and are my new obsession. an ebay search for "medicom kubrick" will be a good illustration. they tend to be produced in limited quantites, and each series includes chase figures to make collectors lose their minds and empty their bank accounts trying to find them. for example, my boyfriend just spent 100 dollars on a one inch tall figure of Amelie since she was produced as a Japan only store exclusive for HMV. haha
you can view the official medicom site at
http://www.medicom.co.jp
the most insane thing i own from them is this large (and i mean large..as in 3 feet tall) figure of Andy Warhol in Kubrick form.
you can see a picture of him here:

(!!!)
I also love walkers, and a lot of asian vinyl, although i can't afford most of it.
check out the "bored picture thread" on here to see some of my stuff.

looking forward to spending the greater part of early june in the electronics district of tokyo, in hopes of expanding my collection of robot toys and bizarre play-thing inventions. insect related stuff is also good.

This thread kind of reminds me of that seinfeld episode where Jerry dates this girl just so he can play with her awesome toy collection after putting her to sleep with excesssive wine and turkey....I wish skeletor and He-man were having hot hot man love on my shelf...
It also reminds me that I have to wait another two months before the new Star Wars movie comes out >

I wouldn't say I collect toys, but I have about fifteen or twenty wind-up toys. They're reproductions, not old, original toys though -- they're mean to be played with. I do have one hot pink clear kubrick.

not a toy collector but it always pisses me off when people disrespect their toys by leaving them in the box. take 'em out and play with 'em, goddamnit.
look at all those HOMIEZ. i like how by series 7 they were getting college degrees, winning the bancroft prize, etc

AMEN TO THAT!
I'm not a toy collector either, but if I see something really neat I will buy it. I think I have ten or so. My favorite is my space ghost, because it comes with the whole desk set, so I have talk shows with like, jesus and bender.

Man, I can't find these for sale ANYWHERE on the internet. I mean, sure, they're sold out and all, but nothing on craigslist, nothing on Amazon, nothing on Ebay? Weird. Maybe they never actually came out?
