Hello friends! You are a member of this message board. You will record a cover of a song of your choice, and submit it for inclusion in a compilation. Discuss.
Zach says: I will do The Toadies' "Possum Kingdom"!

I said no such thing! Oh, you meant you.
I'm down, but I'll have to think about the song. At the moment I'm flirting with the idea of Paris & Rome by the Cranes.

I'm down for I Believe in a Thing Called Love
that possum kingdom could be really cool the way you described doing it, cause thats already a pretty long song, and if you slow it down, you could drag that shit out for 9 or 10 minutes. It'd be perfect for that genre, lots of repitition of words and the riff itself is pretty repetitive.

a got a pickup for my acoustic, so now I can hook it up to my radical pedal and have some wailing solos in my sadcore slowed down cover of the darkness.

argh! "power of love" vs. elastica's "connection" vs. "meow mix commercial theme"
because "connection" has a drum solo in it, and i'm just a drummer, it would probably be the most relevant choice (in the other two, i'm also just a drummer, but with no solo, and therefore, no reason to live). besides, this version is instrumental and utilizes a fun machine.

Haha, that's a baldfaced lie, but I HAVE been working on an acoustic cover of "Motorhead." Hmmm, if only Brice was here, our "Plush" ruled. Maybe I should just give up and post his TOTALLY AWESOME cover of "One Night in Bangkok."
I'll try, it depends how proficient I can become at Garageband in the time this thread requires.

I may or may not take a shot at a vastly stripped down version of Okkervil River's Kansas City.

Looks like I've got a good take of Pavement's "Shady Lane" and an ok ver. of the Moles "Lonely Hearts Get What They Deserve" that I recorded a while back. I may just submit both and let Greg put 'em in a grudge match and see who comes out alive.

Can we make a rule? No tMG. I know its probably an unspoken rule, but lets set it in text.

Whew, missed out on all this today!! I suppose my drunken idea was actually hella tight, no?
I'll put it all together, I'm up for it, I mean it was my idea right?
I'm all about the buttons, too, though I can't make them, so the person who mentioned that should totally get all up ons.
I agree, no mountain goats... it's just a good rule to go by.
What are the guidelines for this? Should we lay some down? Or am I just going to recieve a song from each of you and put it all on a CD and send it out with cool all original cover art (submitted by someone other than myself; my artistry is very lacking in the visual realm) to everyone who wants a copy?
(Though I would appreciate cost-of-shipping from everyone involved.)
Sound good?
Maybe we ought to make it themed... like only covers of 80's songs, or only covers of obscure 90's indie rock, or only covers of delta blues songs... what do you think?

Yay! Rockme's back!
Alongside the cd of my song(s), I will mail you a couple bucks to help cover costs. I think if everyone mailed donations toward production with their contributions that would cover most of the cost of shipping all these things out.
As far as themes go, I think it's a little late for that. I kinda like the idea of a monstrous, free-roaming covers compilation.
I guess it can work like this...we'll mail you our cds, sequence them, and then post the tracklist. Someone can jump on the ball for artwork at that point.
And Greg will make buttons! Hooray!

Sounds good, Mork. Time frame on this? Liiike is June 1st unreasonable? I have Finals week coming up but after that I'll have a little more free time to devote to this project.
Next compilation needs to be themed... like all reggae covers or something. I just have this burning to cover a Peter Tosh song.
SOOOO mail them all to me by June 1st... and not that I don't trust y'all but I just don't want to post my address up on the board... sooo you can just e-mail me if your interested in this and want to send a song, and I'll mail you back promptly with my address, cool?
I'm excited about the buttons...
Ooooo maybe we ought to send the compilation along to Pitchfork (since we're celebrities now with them, anyway) and see if they'll give us a favorable and hip review. Oh how I loath hip people.

I can make that deadline, sure. Shit, I can get this in the mail to you tomorrow.
It'd be funny to send it to Ryan "Indian Giver" Schrieber, sure, but it'd actually get reviewed if we sent it to
Splendid
.
But as this is gonna be a bunch of "no rights reserved in the slightest" covers, I'm not sure of the legaleese regarding diseminating this stuff, even for free.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let the compiling commence!

yeah, so... I'm like... done
unless I decide to add in a mean slide guitar solo later... I'm pretty much done. I hope the wah wah solo in the closer isn't too much.

Dude, there's no such thing as "too much wah-wah." If only you had a talk box for that shit!
And Greg! Would you cartoon us up some artwork for this? I really like your stuff.
