If by 'the other day', you mean 'that day when they invented internet message boards', then yes.
And by yes I mean, get your busted trick ass out my thread before I steal your no-video-havin' ipod.
You still hanging on to that? That's the problem with you poor people, you kinda hang on to the past and bring up old shit over and over again. It is all like 'me me me me me.'

Sorry dude I just posted that thing in the first place to get a rise out of you. That video ipod thing just stuck in my head for some reason. You must've said it a bunch or something, because every time I see your screen name I hear "That isn't even a video ipod!" in my head, and I chuckle.

I said it once, and it was to some assface that was claiming brooklyn or something. And if I remember correctly, I called him out a step further and told him his ipod doesn't even have a color screen. I'm a fair man, I don't expect you to have a video ipod, but at least have the decency to rock one that flashes colors on the screen, but even that nowdays is cutting it close to distasteful.

I kick it old school with the monochrome iPod mini. And anybody who doesn't like it can eat the corn outta my shit.

I haven't had bourbon in months (or possibly years), but I'm sipping one now. Since the whisky I drink is usually scotch, this is tasting like candy in comparison. It's a little off-putting, a little enjoyable.

Can you share with us which variety of bourbon you are enjoying/not enjoying?

I was enjoying some Maker's Mark. It was good, just sweeter than I'm used to. I'm about to go out for a beer, and console a distraught friend over a couple of Cold Ones.

I don't have any Maker's Mark left but I do have some Knob Creek. Hmm. I think I might go there.

Oh Greg, won't you share the Maker's Mark with andronicus? He's been craving some all summer. C'mon, do it for the kids.

Maker's is good, but definitely entry-level. It uses wheat instead of rye in the mash which makes a smoother sweeter bourbon. You seem to like more challenging flavors; you might try something with some rye kick to it like Bulleit or Knob Creek, or even Booker's if you want to throw down some $$.

Martinis— I want to make some. What brands of vermouth and gin should I look into? I'm looking for something solid but mid-price.

For gin, I like Boodles, which is pretty damn good and I can get for around $16/750ml. Hopefully someone else can make some vermouth recommendations, 'cause I just use whatever's handy and I don't use much of it.

Yeah. All I generally do is take the gin out, take the vermouth out, say "Gin, this is vermouth. Vermouth, gin." Then put it away. That's about enough.
The only vermouth I've ever used is Martini & Rossi. So I'm not even sure if it's any "good." But, I mean...I (possibly foolishly) thought of them as the trusted brand-name purveyors. I don't know if there are better brands, though.
Also, have you read the finer points of discussion about dirty martinis elsewhere on the board? Once in a while, I do that.

Yojimbo, thanks (belatedly) for the advice. I will look into these bourbons of which you speak.
So some friends chipped in and got me a nice fifteen-year-old single-malt as a birthday gift, and I'm excited to try it! I can't remember what it's called though, as I'd never heard of it before. Something scottish, like "Glenheadbutt" or something. It smelled a little fruity and sweet and mild.
Also, in the news (read: BoingBoing):

Thirded. I should also rep for Blanton's, since it's the first bourbon I ever had and the one that got me hooked.
If you're feeling cheaper than those two, Elijah Craig is some perfectly good stuff, despite costing less than Turkey. Sorta the Boodle's of bourbons.

I think the 80 proof is pretty unpalatable. But for some reason the 101 is incredibly tasty.
Also tasty, which I had just recently:

Last night, I tried a bourbon and ginger ale for the first time, after hearing about the combination from someone here (dumbfish, maybe?).
I've since rechristened the drink "The Emily Gilmore", because it's all sweet and tingly and liquory, which is what I imagine the inside of her mouth tastes like.
