What is a cheese toastie?
It may be what we here in the south call "cheese toast."  It consists of bread, with cheese on it, put into a toaster oven until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted.  Often, it will be cut in half, sometimes diagonally, and I like to add garlic salt to mine.

no, actually, it is hoosier for grilled cheese sandwich. we even explained to ravinglunatic that there's this whole other thing called cheese toast that that term should probably refer to, and he said we were all crazy. it was kind of like the time andronicus tried to convince us that it wasn't weird to call a vacuum cleaner a sweeper, regardless of the existence of an entirely different thing called a carpet sweeper that is clearly not the same thing as a vacuum cleaner.

those crazy hoosiers.

in RL's defense, it IS also rather common in anglophone Europe for a grilled cheese sandwich. And to my mind, English rarely allows for phrases like [X] and [X]-ie to coexist as full-fledged words (rather than nonce formations) WITHOUT a difference in meaning.

In other words, it would actually be, to my understanding, less likely that there should coexist current conventional phrases 'cheese toast' and 'cheese toastie' which actually refer to the exact same thing.

I call it grilled cheese and have never heard the phrase cheese toastie before this board, for what it's worth.

It's still a sweeper though Andrew, you jackass.

I would never have guessed that.

also, vacuums don't actually create a vacuum, do they?  just a pressure differential, right?  not that I think they should be called sweepers.  that's just silly.

Mine does, but that's because it contains a tiny quantum singularity that allows it to do all sorts of crazy shit

I have to wake up in 3 hours and work all day and I can't sleep. Ahhhhh! After work today I was so sleepy I stopped at my great grandma's and slept for 2 hours, so I suppose that's why I can't sleep. Still, it seems like I should be able to sleep by now.

I've been up for the past two and a half hours, trying to get back to sleep.  It is not working.  It's 5:30 now.  Perhaps it's time I accept that it's morning, I'm awake, and there's nothing I can do about it.

Seems to me that, once you've opened the computer and posted, you're up.

why is it that at least every third friday, if not more frequently than that, i pretty much can't sleep at all? i think it's made worse by the fact that on friday nights, i tend to go out and do stuff, and then i always have to get up at 9 am to go open the store at 10. soooo, by the time i get home at 2 or 3 am, i have to jump right into bed if i even want 6 hours of sleep. and of course, that never works. i end up tossing and turning until 6 am. and last night, i really honestly don't remember sleeping at all until maybe 7:30. now, i think i probably just kept dozing off and waking up after 4 am or so, but still, i didn't get much of any sleep. and i'm feeling ok now, but as soon as i take my blood pressure meds, i know i'm going to crash really hard. so now i just have to hold off as long as possible so that i can stay awake until 4 when i get off work. blah.

yeah, I need at least an hour of decompression time after working late or going out or I will have really crappy sleep.  it's worth it for me to have an hour less of sleep than to spend the whole night tossing and turning.

oh, I also have a self-imposed ban on computer using for at least 1/2 hour before bed, but I also use the computer all day at work.  reading or listening to music are better for me if I have any doubt about my ability to sleep.

The heating system in my bedroom is apparently very out of whack, as I've turned off the apartment's heat according to the thermostat, and yet, in there, it's being heated until it's now at 80°. I have the window open and everything too, to no avail.

If there's one single thing that guarantees my not sleeping, it's being too warm. Light, I'm fine with, noise, it depends, but heat, heat keeps me tossing and turning. I like my room to be kind of cold if anything, so I have to burrow a bit under my comforter.

So I've now moved into the much cooler main room, with one very awake cat, and am going to curl up on my couch and watch West Wing episodes until I drift off. Argh.
