I found two songs by them on two separate mp3 blogs. I like these songs quite a bit, but I have no idea how good the album is. Thoughts?

For those who haven't heard anything: Think like a poppier Neutral Milk Hotel (although you know, not as good and not as cool innovations- but a nasal male vocalist and the occasional weird imagery) who plays up the Jesus and God stuff a bit more. Oh, and the first song throws in a female vocalist. I think I got the songs off of Fluxblog and Said The Gramophone...

Ha, Said The Gramophone gives a link to where the whole record can be streamed, actually. Will look into that.

Oh and someone in the comments thread compares the singer's voice to that of the guy from Castanets, which is also accurate.

Can't find the Fluxblog link. And the Myspace stuff isn't quite as good as the mp3s previously downloaded, but...

Yeah, any thoughts on this band?

I'm bumping this thread for reasons that should be obvious to anyone who's heard this record.

Twice as singer-songwriter-ey and twice as Christian-ey as Sufjan, and also twice as good.

I also felt secure in necroing this thread since it doesn't appear that I posted anything idiotic in it the first time around.

"Chariot" might be my favorite song of the year

I don't know what you mean by twice as singer-songwriter-ey but even though Sufjan has more instrumentation than Page, Sufjan still seems more like a singer-songwriter than Page. Maybe its 'cause Page doesn't sing about crying as much.

But, yeah, it is better than Illinois but not as good as Michigan

Michigan and Seven Swans are much better than Illinois, though. Check em out.

I rather like this Page France dealie, though I really can't stand the guy's voice.

All I meant is that Page France is awesomely, almost painfully earnest, whereas Sufjan appears to be a little more about the artifice (ie, the "state" structure, the choirs, the long goofy song titles, etc)

Although I should've shut my mouth because we need another Sufjan thread like we need another filesharing thread.

I actually don't own the new Sufjan record yet, and I don't own the Page France record either.

Which should I buy?

So Page France is no longer. Now Michael Nau is Cotton Jones. And more importantly, he's been writing songs. I didn't care much for Family Telephone, but Hello, Dear Wind was freakin' awesome, so I'm certainly not giving up on him yet.

From interviews, it always seemed like this was going to happen sooner or later.  I mean, for a long time the guy insisted on calling Page France just a "songwriting project" and not a "band".  Anyway, PF was pretty much all him anyway, so this shouldn't matter much.   Also RL, I like Family Telephone more and more with each listen.

I like Illinois the best. Most people seem to like it the least. I really don't know why
