the gales were crazy yesterday! one of our schools lost its entire roof - very scary stuff. my trusty building survived this as it survived two world wars and a multitude of adverse weather conditions, though (which is to say, without offering any reason for staff to leave early). i was glad not to be on the 40th floor of a big shiny glass towerblock, mind.

today is friday and i am going home in something like two hours.

i forgot to check the mail yesterday, so i checked it this morning, and alistair's cd came!   i haven't listened to it yet, but holy fuck shit the packaging is gorgeous!  how'd you do that?

but in answer to your post and question, jeb, yay!  

and yeah, it took rather a long time! we had a design graduate friend's photoshop skills on loan for about a month, and a long search for cardboard and paper and lots of arguing and constructive debate and paper mock-ups. it was almost as gruelling/rewarding as making the music (the worst moment was when we realised the card's corrugate ran the wrong way and it wouldn't bend to go through the printer, so we had to run it through cut to A5 size and then build each box from four separate pieces). but we got through it, cutting and gluing like only the amateur enthusiast knows how!

so yeah, short answer = home computer, scissors and glue, lots of tired fingers.

i'm really delighted you like it. hope the tunes please too. and y'know, anyone else wants one, i've got a few left still.

So tonight my mum is looking after the children and mrs Ink and I are off to drink copious amounts of red wine with a few good friends. This happens very rarely in these high days of parenthood and is cause for serious fist-twirling and whooping.

Haha--me too!  In fact, I have no copy of the book to call my own becuase I keep on givin' it away.  I also have probably not read it in 7 or 8 years, but I leafed through the copy I gave to Lucy and I think I might have to give it another go.

Actually, i sa his new one out in hardback in the book shop today too. I was in a hurry so only had a quick look, but it seemed to be some kind of Romeo & Juliet type story. It was called Revolutions and the way it was printed meant that you had to keep turning the book around to read it. Oh, and all the letter 'o's were green.

My mom called me this morning and launched into a rambling emo-type discussion that lasted about an hour, mostly one-sided. That didn't particularly thrill me, though I didn't have anything better to do, really; what did make me happy was her completely out-of-the-blue offhand comment about starting a union when she was 20. My mother started working straight out of high school, never went to college, and didn't really show any interest in politics until W. finally semi-radicalized her; I never assumed there were any gaps to fill in that story. But apparently when she worked in a factory in Minnesota she got involved in a union effort, and because some of the older, career women were afraid to put themselves on the line she became a co-leader of the movement, which won recognition and negotiated a better contract. So that was pretty cool to learn. Goes to show, I guess, that you never really know anyone as well as you think.
