I've always thought that taking someone to a sex shop on the first date would show you a lot about their personality.

The one time I did that was also the one time I got lucky on a first date. I think it helped that we won a bunch of porn DVDs in some random door-prize at the Hustler Store.

Also, tops, better be sure she's legal if you go that route. Humbert Humbert and all . . .

I got the highest grade for the year on my term paper! And the teacher gave me such nice comments! and corrected/commented on everything ever, so I can now fix it up and send it in to schools that wanted writing samples.

Woo! I'm so relieved I'm going to nap! The average for this year was around a 60. I was so sure I had done badly.

I just called my 80 year old grandma who lives in Laguna Beach to say I'm coming to a wedding in LA next month and I thought I might come visit her for a couple of days.  She told me to make sure everyone knows that Laguna Beach is nothing like the TV show, and then reminisced about the last time I was there (about 10 years ago), when we walked on the beach and lots of boys tried to pick me up.  Heh, I don't remember that and she's probably confusing me with one of the other cousins (she's got over 50 grand kids at this point), but it made me smile, nevertheless.  Grandmas are so great.

I've been debating where to post this story, but it's such an example of karma and poetic justice, that I think it belongs here.

My mom's been working at her job for 13 years now.  She works in the admissions office of a nursing home, so she's the first contact families have when they're considering where to place their parent/other relative, and she's great at her job.  She's really warm and friendly and people just naturally like her.  I don't think a week has gone by in the 13 years that she hasn't gotten a call or a card or small gift from a family thanking her for all her help.  She's been planning to retire at 65, which will be this March, so she would've given her notice in about a month.  Yesterday afternoon, the Human Resources manager came into her office and told her they were eliminating her position effective immediately.  It was a flat out cold thing to do to her, and she was really upset at the way it was handled.

The thing is, because she was fired, she got the severance pay, plus she now gets to collect unemployment in addition to her social security retirement.  If they had just waited a bit, rather than being the cold assholes that they are, they wouldn't have had to pay her anything!  Instant karma.

It's a super hot, humid Friday. I get home from work and someone hands me a Pimms & Lemonade.

Now that's a good start to the weekend.

This is an awesome idea, but there are countless ways it could go horribly wrong. I'm conflicted.

Yeah, and Thai Food, and she likes it spicy.  Twisted Evil

I'm in L.A., and I'm gonna take my girl to a sex shop tonight as part of our two-year anniversary.

Unless she fails her exam today, in which case things probably won't be so joyous. But she's a hard worker, I'm pretty sure she'll rock it.

Yeah, that sounds good. But what exactly is a "live tour" of a sex shop?

Live tour, I wasn't so sure about. But it's fun to just do some people-watching at the sex shop, let alone look at any of the inventory.

Hey, adf, I think you and Wally should both read this book. I think you might enjoy it. Maybe I should post it in the pervy movie thread but it's not a movie so whatevz.

I highly recommend Toys in Babeland, on Melrose just E. of La Brea. Top-quality.

Thanks, Bernard. You know, I've been to the NYC BiT, but never the L.A. one for some reason. My partner is a fan of the Pleasure Chest in West Hollywood--being woman-friendly is a huge factor for her (and rightly so, of course!)--but I'll put in a nomination. Also, it's a shorter drive, so that's good too.

And HM, have you read that book? It sounds interesting, and I partly want to read it just in the hopes of refuting the seemingly-patronizing reviewer:

Quote from: "Publishers Weekly"
Although crudely frank about sexual positions and bodily fluids, Lewis, a 34-year-old bisexual, is slippery about her own background and motivations. Her protests that her self-esteem isn't low ring false, and its doubtful readers will believe that a National Merit scholar and self-described feminist is actually happy peeing herself for the camera. This sad exercise in denial misses the mark as either titillating erotica or bold affirmation of personal autonomy.

WTF? What's so unhappy-making about pee?

Yeah, I read more than half of it on a two hour flight to Indiana, and it was pretty awesome. There's a scene that's so disgusting that I want to tell you about it but I say you should read it yourself.

Slept in til 11:00, not nearly as hungover as I should be. There's leftover pizza in the fridge, a package on the front doorstep of records I ordered a while back. It's sunny and warm. A friend I haven't seen in months is coming into town today and tonight we shall go to the Isis show where we will drink and be merry with Difficult, GCR & GI.

Then maybe to a party at the big house.

I'm in a pretty good mood.
