I very nearly got caught without a ticket on public transport today. I only realised that I didn't have one while I was already in the middle of getting out my wallet to show it to the controller, when it suddenly occurred to me that it was February and that my semester ticket was thus no longer valid. I figured that the best option was to just show my semester ticket anyway and to hope that the controller would either not notice, pretend not to notice, or call me out on it but let me go without having to pay when I feigned ignorance. And it totally worked! He just saw the outlines of the student ticket before I took it out of the wallet, gave me a sign saying "nevermind" and went on to the next person. I have no idea if it was because he figured out what was going on from the look on my face and decided to let me go, if he felt sorry for me because of my only semi-functional left hand and thus didn't want to put put me through the trouble of getting the ticket out all the way, or if he was really just too impatient to wait, but either way, very very good news.

You know that fury-inducing story about the young woman jailed while informing the police about her rape and then denied the Plan-B pill? Well, I'm still fuming about that, but I just got the story forwarded to me by my girlfriend, because she's on all sorts of SaveRoe and Planned Parenthood and Medical Students for Choice email lists, and I'm really happy to have a partner with such strong feminist convictions.

Plus, I get to go back to Los Angeles next weekend for our two-year anniversary.
