yay, another vid game developer in da haus.  And yup, another one who knows about the "grass is greener" thing with these types of jobs (i.e. pays well / zero job security )... although these are problems I want to have.

ahhahahahahahahh- you do realize how the game manhunt is played right?  nintendo would never, in a million years, let that kind of violence on their systems.  they have very strict guidelines in that regard.  that game has a bad rep. among adults, opening it up to the child-friendly machine would never fly.

to the person above- i actually have amazing job security and would never complain about that.  rockst*r is a great company that gives amazing benefits (to both married and unmarried partners) but also gives long contracts and yearly bonuses.  i do creative though, like research and characters and writing and some QA, not really technical anything.  so i don't know how similar our jobs are.  i think they are okay because they are still a relatively small company.  

in real life, i only own a gamecube and tend to play adorable games like animal crossing and mario kart.

Wow, JP, you're promoting Jane Birkin! I just read the thing on your website about her upcoming show, and I would LOVE to hear that lineup. She's got an oudist!  Is there a new JB CD coming out, with the oud and everything?

Chander Sardjoe sounds really cool, too.

Unfortunately the oudist failed to show for the gig. Apparently there was some macho conflict with the violinist. For the record, it was a great show - violin, piano and darboukka/bendir, though JB can't sing for toffee. She makes up for that in other ways, like stage presence, charisma, etc. The CD Arabesque is great, though I'm not sure if it has US distro. It's on EMI France and the image on my site is the cover of the CD.

They had Hitman 2 though - that was one of the most ruthless games I've ever played - if you feel like it, you can engage in the most ruthless overkill imaginable: kill the guy you're looking for, kill the hostage he's keeping, kill the servants, etc etc. All manner of blood, weapons, strangling people close-up with a cord, and whatnot.

It was also one of the most engrossing games I've ever played. That is, until my recent Mario Paper 2 phase

i thought nintendo took a lot of flack for that hitman game.  i have never played it and i hear nothing but great stuff about paper mario 1 and 2.  manhunt is more psychological in that everyone in the world is an enemy and you are never safe so much of the game is just you hiding in the shadows.  

and then of course bizarre and ruthless killing.  

the gameboy advance just came out with a GTA game though.  baby steps...

I've worked as a web designer/developer for five years, then I got fed up and ran away from the big bad post dot-com-bubble-burst corporate world screaming like a banshee on meth (the prospect of spending my life in a tailleur and turning into some *.* manager wasn't really appealing to me).

Now I'm not sure of what is my job anymore. I'm unemployed.

I like to draw things regardless if people like the things I do or not.
I don't think I'm good enough (or am pretentious enough) to say I'm an illustrator/artist/what have you but I do plan on getting my Major in Illustration at some point.

I used to stab chickens for a living.

Honestly.

It was disgusting.

There was a stainless steel table that I worked at, it had a basin where the chicken blood would collect.

There was a valve under the table to drain the basin into a bucket.

The bucket had to be taken to one particular sink to empty, because there were laws about dumping untreated animal blood into the sewer system.

You had to be careful to not clog that one particular sink with the chunks of chicken parts that would end up in the bucket, otherwise a plummer would have to come out and the buckets of chicken blood would have to sit and stagnate.

These days I've been working at the Good Will down the street to help make ends meet.  Today I found $4 in the pocket of a pair of shorts I was putting on the racks, and then I found a brand new pair of converse, in my size, for $3.99.  Score!  I also get to interact with the endearing public!  Today a woman who had been walking around the store knocking shit off hangers for like 20 minutes and thoroughly irritating me approached me with a pair of khakis and asked if I could help her pick out something that matched.  I wanted to tell her they are beige, everything matches.  And then I wanted to remind her that I work for minimum wage, and she is not in a department store.  She is in a warehouse under the El.
