Splendid To Cease Publication

This kinda saddens me.  They've been my review site of choice (LPTJ notwithstanding) for years now.  I'd always figured this open submission policy they had would bite them in the ass eventually, and that's happening sooner rather than later.

Once upon a time, Splendid reviewed my old band's demo.

FUCK. I loved these guys, but yeah the open-submission thing is sadly unwiedly... oh, and:

but there's nothing "post" about the rock in which they often engage.

Ah shit. The only place so much stuff could probably ever get reviewed. Here's a good line from a review of something my band sent in and maybe shouldn't have.

They carry on about their laser beam; one of them drags a dead vocal note for light years across an unhinged space mess. They laugh.

aw man.  that's the end of an era, right there.  who else in this whole wide world of ours will accept every single last badly battered tape and cdr, in the hope that they will find that one overlooked gem that completely removes faces left and right?  no one, sir.  no one.

well, considering their philosophy, i'm going to guess that the new site - if there is a new site - will probably follow a more toned-down version of their old submission policy.  but still.  rip splendid.

For food/coupons, I will review all of your albums, lovingly. Seriously though, Splendid always struck me as one of the worse written 'zines, but maybe I just caught some unrepresentative pieces. Maybe it's more hit-or-supermiss, like Tiny Mix Tapes.
