it's like you WANT to lose your job, so you can then complain about the type of people in the world who want to keep you from getting ahead in life, and blame everyone but yourself for your own misfortune. how about you suck it up and find a way to deal with it? fuck, man, is it so fucking hard to park in another place? is the bumper sticker worth the amount of income you'll lose if you get fired over it? i don't want to be a dick here, but i feel like you're creating the situation as it exists, and i for one won't have any sympathy for you if your attitude in this situation gets you fired. it's not fucking worth it.

These should totally be lyrics man.  It'll be the hardcore "Like A Rolling Stone."

WHOA! How did I miss that post? Got to say I agree with you, tiskis.

Well, what if one cares about expressing themselves the way they see fit more than their crappy job someplace? it's not neccesarily like he's just being a hardass. maybe he really likes the sticker, maybe it's been there for a while, and maybe it says something important to him. maybe not, but don't just automatically play it off like it's so easy to just fix shit like that. and besides, what if he can't park anywhere else? what if his employers just don't accept that? what's the value of expression?

i've cut my hair to keep a job before. i'm not saying i liked it, but i need money to live. it's the same principle. as far as i'm concerned, if you lose your job over some trivial bullshit like a bumper sticker, no amount of hiding behind the first amendment will cover up the fact that you blew your primary source of income over something trivial. seriously, i think people who do stuff like that have martyr complexes and would prefer to be able to complain about losing their job than to actually put some work into life and try to succeed. in the words of denis leary, "life sucks, get a fuckin helmet."

A bumper sticker seems like a minor concession compared to the 40 hours of your life you're giving to them every week.

His right to expression nullifies the right of these other people to determine what happens in their parking lot? I'm not arguing that nobody has the right to express themselves ever: he has the right to refuse to take off the sticker, and they have the right to refuse to provide him a place to park.

This whole false pride thing about refusing to censor oneself for the benefit of others is predicated entirely upon a fallacy; namely, that your opinion means anything. It don't, SUCKA.

yeah, it's true, if he wants to keep the job, it's his responsibility, and he'd probably have to concede. i'm saying it's a balancing act: what's more important? if it's an unimportant, shitty job, then personally, i'd rather tell them to fuck themselves, and get a better job where i can even keep the sticker. if it's a job i really need, yeah, i'll cover it or something.

jobs aren't automatically top priority to everyone. i've had jobs i didn't mind losing over silly shit. the straw that broke the camel's back on the job before my last was my bosses playing monte montgomery one too many times.

they also have a design that includes the slogan "dead girls don't say no", which comes way too close to rape advocacy for me to be comfortable with it.

so... its only nonconsensual necrophilia that youre uncomfortable with?

more that i figured i shouldn't HAVE to define myself as not in favor of necrophilia. like, i didn't figure we'd gotten to the point where people are no longer assuming that one disapproves of such a thing.

well, the way the guy was describing the incident and the circumstances around it, it sounded to me like he was writing the story in his head already, as a story of himself being unjustly fired due to his desire to freely express himself being trampled upon by evil christians. it seemed like he was rejecting any alternative to forcing the issue and losing the job just because it didn't fit into the script he'd written in his head. that, to me, is a bunch of bullshit. if he'd come here and been like "dont get me wrong, i'm gonna cover the sticker, because it's not worth losing my job over, but do you people really think a sticker saying '...' is worth the fuss they're making?" then i would see him in a different light, and might even be on his side. but the way he was reacting to some of our suggestions kinda turned me against the whole thing.

huh, i hadn't considered that ramification of what i was saying.

i guess rape is one of those things that it never hurts to go on record as opposing.

oh whoa, redux.

The fact that "babyeater" has become one word is proof enough of babyeaters infiltrating mainstream America. God help us all.

Oh man, some of my friends had some pretty offensive shirts, complete with pictures of things like a nun getting fucked with a crucifix and slogans like FUCK ME JESUS

some friends and I are making some tshirts soon that show mary putting on lipstick, only it's not a tube of lipstick, it's human intestines and they trail off to the background where jesus is lying on the ground with his guts spilling out.
the caption is tentatively going to be "even virgins gotta look good"
