I'll put this here, too.
ATP is doing an
I'll Be Your Mirror at Asbury Park, NJ.
Jeff Mangum is playing Friday night (admission only with 3-day pass)
He is also playing Monday night.
The Mangum shows are at the Paramount Theatre, which holds 1600.
(Portishead is curating/headlining the other two days, fyi.)

Tickets to the monday show are only $35 dollars. That sounds like a worthwhile venture.
If anyone can figure out where to buy tickets I'd greatly appreciate it. I checked the Asbury Park website but they weren't selling individual tickets yet.

I figured at least one of the first two responses would be something along those lines. I'd never even heard of it before my favorite parenting columnist, Tom Scocca, started writing for them. I followed him over but he never blogs about his kids anymore, and I'm not all that interested in what he does blog about.

Asbury Park kind of sucks but it's more convenient for me than the old place. So I guess I'll be trying for the Monday thing.

I actually find it a little surprising given your purported hatred of sneering, petty irony.

Don't get me wrong, they occasionally run things that totally bug me. For example, the Julie Klausner/Natasha Vargas-Cooper F/M/K feature makes me want to claw out my eyes every time. But for the most part I find the longer pieces on there to be original and interesting. And like, I think the sarcasm on that site is generally broad enough that I can pick up on it and take it for what it is, which is what usually bugs me about such things. I find the annoying incidences of irony and above-it-all snark to be a tiny minority of what gets posted on there, and it's small enough that I can ignore it, for the most part.

He's curating an ATP in the UK this December, apparently. Bands confirmed so far? Superchunk and a bunch of Elephant 6 people.

This boxset looks like a beautiful thing.

What with this, Jeff's increasingly visiblity and extensive touring, what's the chances of new material?

Incredibly reasonably priced, too.

Couldn't get tickets to his shows in NJ. So pissed.

I'm just going to trust that I'm "in the loop" enough to learn about the inevitable Athens show early on -- while there are still tickets left. Failing that, I'll hope that I have friends who are deeper "in the loop" and will hook me up.
Of course, there's always the possibility that he'll never return to Athens.
