I re-read this thread just now- Jacob, you sure do like it in here. Smile

Also, I hadn't seen some of it before, so if you'll excuse me some catching up:

Too much fun!

Not crazy similar, but I kept mixing them up at the time of their release.

For extra points, name the third world country whose shape most closely resembles that of the burn on the Smog album.

Jerk?

Pardon?

I can only suppose that you are one of those who finds any use of the term "Third World" offensive.

It was certainly not my intention to offend anyone.

I do understand that many of the issues relating to the divide between developed and developing nations are extremely serious.

That said, I find it difficult to understand how anyone could be so offended by this particular use (in the context of what was obviously a jocular response in a fairly frivolous thread on an indie rock-oriented internet message board), that they feel the need to resort to an ad hominem attack.

May I respectfully suggest that you lighten up just a bit?

Quote
In contrast to revenge, which is the natural, automatic reaction to transgression and which, because of the irreversibility of the action process can be expected and even calculated, the act of forgiving can never be predicted; it is the only reaction that acts in an unexpected way and thus retains, though being a reaction, something of the original character of action.

Looks more like Uruguay.

Jakob - Subsets of Sets

Joy Division - Transmission

These actually don't look very similar, but in my mind (before I went looking through my records) they were. One's a city, the other's a ferris wheel I think but meh. I'll post it anyway :D same applies below.

EDIT:

Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights

Dimmer - You've Got to Hear the Music

Good one.

Not quite as good, but they put me in mind of this Clinic cover too:

Yeah, was someone posting about that on LPTJ?  I seem to recall hearing someone say, "The new Silverchair is actually amazing, and I know you're laughing at me and think I'm crazy or something, but for serious."

yeah, i have a friend who just toured with the whigs--buzzworthy indie rock band local to athens--and played some shows with silverchair. so maybe they're going after a different demographic this time around?

That was probably me in the Now Playing thread, but yeah, f'reals.  They totally cast off their Nirvana-tribute-band status and created an amazing pop album.

It's still streaming on their myspace.  Check "Those Thieving Birds."

EDIT: Also, that popmatters review is kinda whack.  I mean, you could consider "Reflections of a Sound" to be in that Coldplay/Snow Patrol vein, but it's a whole lot more interesting and beautiful.  And my friend has accused "Straight Lines" of sounding like Phil Collins, which is something I actually have no problem with if we're talking first few solo albums.  Also, whatever you do, do not watch the video for "Straight Lines."

well yeah, it is.

yeah fair enough. pretty much everyone I know likes or liked silverchair at some point. that single fucking ruins my life though. and I'm not a fan of the album.

WOO OOO WOO OOOOO

I hate it almost as much as that song that goes:

LOOKING AT YOU THROUGH THE GLASS
DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH TIME HAS PASSED
ALL I KNOW IS THAT IT FEELS LIKE FOREVER
NOONE EVER TELLS YOU THAT FOREVER FEELS LIKE HOME
SITTING ALL ALONE INSIDE YOUR HEAD

and whats even worse is its the guy from slipknot for fucks sake.

i hate music.
