Erm clarification for that remark, well Difficult I have immense respect for you and I assume you know that, what you're trying to do with your films and the way you talk about films impressives the life out of me, and I hope in 7 years time I've still got half your focus. But this thread was clearly here for a few of us to geek out.
Yes lively discussion is the basis for yada yada yada, but the way the thread has gone has clearly pushed a few GG and VM fans away.
I mean was anyone shocked that difficult, GI and Nicholson don't have much time for american network television, was anyone suprised when G.I and Nicholson felt the need to educate. If anyone was, Well welcome it's nice here please stay.
I don't mean any disrespect to you Campbell, I just made that comment out of frustration, with your stop posting photos and talking about shows with teenage girls in. I have room in my life for the them, and I love that, you don't fine but this kind of discussion has popped up in a few other threads, what's a good film what makes good art etc etc, by you and old Nico infact and it's a good read.
In the end I guess it is about how people say it which is why the snob was a little more directed at Nicholson and GI because of the unbelivable condecention they seem to exhibit. ALL THE TIME.

Oh man, I'm sorry if I come off condescending. I didn't know I did. I knew GI did, because of the conversations about religion and whatnot, but didn't know I was in the same assholish boat. (Much love Good Intentions!)
But I mean, you know, internet, tone of voice is not discernable, miscommunication of tone occurs- Andrew got the impression elsewhere that I seem to take everything personally, which isn't exactly true.
And yeah I would like to apologize for the... I don't want to say threadrot, but the continuing weird derailment of tone. In my defense, I only weighed in once the conversation had turned to the general- I wasn't going to come in and be all "Veronica Mars blows!" because I haven't seen it, (I don't have tv anymore- not out of any kind of Mr. Show character "You'll notice that I call it television, because tv is a nickname and nicknames are for friends and believe me television is no friend of mine" I am just poor) and I actually do know several people on the internet who I respect and seem like smart people who enjoy it.
Sorry I'm a fun-hating ruiner, all.

I'm going to back Dom up on this one. I like both of y'all, but it's true that you come off that way pretty much every time you post. Marinus, bud, you're especially bad at this.

AYGIUGIKHUIGHU, gosh darn it Nicholson this would have been a lot easier if you'd have been an asshole. Jeez erm, well I guess, it's now clear that you don't think you are superior, I'm happy, and will be able to read your intelligent, well thought out arguments without feeling patronised.
Misunderstanding caused like you say by the trickiness of reading into the tone of voice.

I was thinking I should post like me actually saying stuff in a yousendit file of an mp3 so that could just be imagined at all times.
But then I thought that maybe the act of doing so would be condescending.
But seriously, Wally? Just because I've never talked about how handsome you look in that scarf doesn't mean I don't have love for you- I remember talking about how I want to make a movie, and you were all "when it's done, be sure to tell us how we can view it" which I thought was just completely out of fucking nowhere and that level of weird enthusiasm for the endeavours (sic) of your fellow message-board-posting man I found pretty endearing. Which I guess means "thanks for the ego stroke" but it's the fact that you had no reason to stroke my ego that did it for me.

I was goin to come along and say all this half mollifying half defensive about how I didn't think that serious discussion had to kill the frivolous stuff about things that I've often never seen cos I live in NZ, and that I didn't do it, the tone was like that when I got here, and hey what's wrong with vigorously mixing tones with in a single thread we do it all the time, and tings, but I can see you're busy in here so I'll just leave in a minute and... Oh my god, I haven't seen felching in years.. wow.. um, gotta go...

Umm.... um.... um....
Where did I try to educate anybody here? I made one post extolling the virtues of TV (with examples extremely close to my heart) - sure, they weren't American, but I don't get to see
Arrested Developement
et al. I didn't say anything about US network TV - I love The Simpsons, Twin Peaks as much as the next man...
... and I
hate
acting defensively ...
... but this obviously has been bothering Dom, because he responded to Nicholson's diatribe with my name first on the list, and not because of the 7 lines I wrote about Japanese Anime.
The things I have to say here isn't helpful to anybody.

Difficult- You say you've never seen some of the stuff that has been mentioned, yet it's frivolous. Huh. Not what to make of that. Other then whatever differences in taste you may have anyone else, or whatever different ways you choose to spend your time. Well suffice to say I wouldn't call your choices frivolous, whether anyone else on this thread would, I'd hate to say.
Good Intentions, you're clearly oblivious to how your posts have come across, so Happy Birthday, enjoy your day, whilst I'll will endeavour to curb my overeacting ways as I think of things to do with this

Oh wait- Stella had good cinematography. (It actually looked much better than the movie Wet Hot American Summer.) Actually, that show looked great, and was much better than the more-free-rein online shorts. But that suffered for the constant interjections of commercials. And it's probably not going to come back for a second season, or even get a DVD release.
i don't know how similar it was to the tv show, as i didn't like it and so never watched the show, but there was a dvd release called "the stella shorts" that existed before the show ever got a contract. it's got a lot of stuff in it that there's no way they could have shown on television, too.

Yeah, the TV shows didn't have any dildos. You probably wouldn't have liked it anyway, but it did have good cinematography.

Well suffice to say I wouldn't call your choices frivolous, whether anyone else on this thread would, I'd hate to say.
I didn't say I hadn't seen anything, I didn't say it was frivolous, I was refering back to your comment (whether misquoted or not but somethign along the lines of) that you were wanting to get back to being able to talk exclusively about the less serious elements of TV watching or something I interpreted along those lines.
And furthermore, I never implied that I had any judgement about the relative value of such discusssion, merely that I didn't have much to say to contribute to it - so didn't - and that the things I did talk about were of interest to me, and so it seemed, to you, since ypur posts were the best ones on the subject, and elicited enough thoughts in me, and presumably other people, to maintain that particular line of conversation for a few pages yet, until now.
And, finally, I'm surprised and slightly saddened by how pissed you suddenly seem to be about this. It seems out of character, and I'm not quite sure how to respond in a way, since you're clearly unhappy about what I've been doing, but also at great pains to be polite to me, and yet not to others...

Fine, I misunderstood, it seemed you were taking that route of dismissing a conversation because you had no interest in it. If you weren't then I take it all back, every last bit of it. I'd rather talk about TeeVee both with the folks who enjoy the shows I enjoy, and with the ones who would like to talk about how television can improve. If I get uncharacteristiclly annoyed and upset, it's because the latter camp appeared at least two me to be dismissive and snobbish towards the former.
Anyway, hopefully the conversations will find there way back, from this nonsense I started by not calming my annoyance. Apoligies all round, this has probably been my fault entirely.
