The Human League single was Boys And Girls, btw :

Number Six does Playboy, and because it is Playboy, you do not want to be with the clicking if you are at work.

Damn, toaster.

Also: She is Canadian. Who knew?

This could probably go in the making-me-happy thread, but just got this message from Netflix:

The Wire: Season 1: Disc 1
Arriving on or around: Thursday, Jan 18, 2007

Damn thing has been on "long wait" for almost an entire month now, so that was pretty cool.

Will report back, obviously.

I just read that Christopher Eccleston is going to be playing a character on Heroes starting with the next episode.

For those of you who may have missed it, here is a 20 (!)-page interview with one Rob Thomas.
No, not that Rob Thomas, you douchebads.

RT: Right. Are there lines I wouldn't cross? I suppose. The problem, and I think I have this problem a lot, is that I'm willing to not protect characters in the way that other shows are so careful to do. I feel like it lands in predictable drama -- as an example, [in] one of the episodes I wrote for Dawson's Creek, the story is that a football player at the high school is telling people that he nailed Joey. And when it was first conceived, the story I was arguing for was to have Joey rip him to shreds, and my bosses at that point said, "Oh, no no no, that's so unlikable. You can't do that -- people won't forgive Joey." And I remember I hated that at the time, because the idea felt real to me, it felt honest, it felt possible, and yet...what I'm suggesting is that maybe these people are right -- that heroes on television have to be less flawed than the rest of us. But it's a depressing thought if that's the case, and it's not the sort of television that I gravitate to. I suppose, at the end of the day, I feel like I'm more forgiving of the characters' flaws and errors than the fanbase. They hold them up to a higher ideal. Now Veronica, in my mind, can't win; every week, she pours herself into helping someone out, devotes all of her energy, and people complain about her meanness.

Seconded--that's exactly what I need on an otherwise empty Friday afternoon.

Also, watched the first disc of The Wire. You are all indeed correct about that one (since I don't remember seeing any disagreement about it), although I didn't realize how into it I was until the third episode ended and I felt a minor jolt of panic--"wait, don't stop! I won't get my next disc until Tuesday!"

Do what, exactly? Because I am either going to agree heartily with you and possibly it will involve squeeing or punch you in the face, depending on what you are talking about.

What's up with this two-episodes-per-disc bullshit for The Wire? The first disc had three, and I was damn excited to get that trusty red envelope today. Watching a series this way is painful enough as it is--on a weekly basis you're primed for a single episode, if you buy the season you can just have a big orgy of viewing, but one disc every so often feels like coitus interruptus sans coitus--but did they have to make it this protracted a process? Urgh.

The History Channel's showing this thing called "Last Days On Earth" about seven ways in which the Earth could be destroyed.  They're talking about the supervolcano under Yellowstone now.

Great way to start the day.

I wouldn't say that he is so much bad as he is a pale, hollow, kicked-puppy imitation of what he once was, and that he was Old Logan for about 5 seconds in the last episode with the deliberate jailing and the car smashing, and I hate that we didn't see any of that aftermath because it could have been awesome,  and I am sick of the relationship being jerked around this soon and this frequently, and I am sick of Logan's character seemingly solely existing to be with Veronica or not to be with Veronica and his entire life revolving around that.
That said, poor Piz.
And furthermore, part of me just wants to go ARE YOU CRAZY? THAT KISS WAS HAWT.
