http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/features/comments/12-16-05/

1. Jackson Browne: Solo Acoustic Volume 1
2. Geto Boys: The Resurrection
3. Dionne Warwick: Legends
4. Final Fantasy: Has a Good Home
5. Origin: Echoes of Decimation

I am guessing the numbers are arbitrary and this is just like a genre roundup, but that's pure assumption.

Ahahahaaaa... *cough* JD, Resurrection? We talkin' the screwed n' chopped? Nevermind, I'll let it go. I appreciate what you did with your list. It's a gorgeous thing.

as everybody knows, I'm not much on year-end lists & I just produce 'em when the label asks me to...

...that said, anybody who hates on the Resurrection can't have listened to it more than once or twice, and that only in squashed-up li'l mp3s, 'cause played proper and listened to with attention it's a solid fucking record, and Scarface's throwaway lyrics are still league's better than anybody else's best

(except for "We Boogie," which is an awful song that I can't defend)

No, dawg, I wasn't saying anything against Resurrection.

And I hate to question you.

But mayhap you were talking about that killer Geto Boyz album released in'05? The Foundation? Not the one from '95 or '96, Resurrection?

Both records drop it like it's hot. Foundation is still one of the greatest albums of the year.

(Not to nitpick, sorry for the douchery.)

BAAAHAHAHA

my bad

I get all aggro about the Geto Boys because a lot of people talked a lot of shit about that album, and it was one of those games of telephone where everybody seemed to be repeating everybody else's take without really giving the record a shot, when in fact it was just such a rich record - "I Tried," and "Yes Yes Y'all" obviously, but the intense pathos of "Dirty Bitch" which we listened to in the tour car over and over...

...anyway yeah, The Foundation is correct, I think I had Bone Thugs on my mind

It's cool, man... maybe if them damn rappers wouldnt name all their damn records the same damn thing, we wouldn't have this problem.

I gotta say I agree with you entirely, that record kicks ass, tho I frequently have to defend it. Esp. against the dreaded 'back pack rap' fans, or whatever they call that scene? The smart rappers with the intellectualism and the anger? Anyway, man all those songs are killer. Production is pretty fucking spot-on. And sorry dude but I'm behind "We Boogie"... it's just so damn silly, and silly Scarface is a rare thing indeed.

God, it's really kinda a huge bummer that the record did so poorly. I was attracted by the cover and my previous love for Resurrection (the '96 one Wink) and it's hands down the best rap album I heard all year. I'm glad you dig it too, man, at least they sold two copies.

Man, I haven't heard E. 1999 Eternal in soooo long.
My workmate did stroll in the other day singing "Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangster". That's the most I've heard from the Geto Boys in years.

And JD there should write a righteously indignant letter to Phork complaining of the misprint. Just to be a cock.

i gotta say that's lame.

hahaha man I can never understand how people wanna put their own stuff on a year-end list, to me it's just so tacky

then again, I am admittedly a little not-with-the-times on the big-uppin' one's own stuff front

I thought only the Clipse did that, and that was cool- Half to two-thirds of the fun of rap is the constant self-aggrandizement.

I guess James Murphy plugged some stuff his label put out, but whatever, I like Black Dice.

[Unnecessary comment about the Fiery Furnaces in general goes here]

Of course, Pusha T choosing his OWN record as #1?  Lamer still.

Dionne Warwick's version of 'Walk on By' is a mixtape staple these days.

It's always been one of mine, with a few other Bacharach/Leonard gems. This is totally one of the best songs ever written, and the sheer pathos Warwick invokes? Classic.

I went to a wedding a few years back where this song played for the first dance, very strange couple I think it's fair to say.

For the sole metal album on their, Origin is a good choice.

it was really tough, I did an all-metal list for Decibel like the rest of the Decibel writers and that was a lot easier

but yeah that Origin is like like 99 & 96/100 pure stuff, it knocked me over every time I listened to it this year

I didn't know you wrote/write for Decible.  I have a big stack of Decible's that I got from the last New England Metal Fest.  The only one I read about was the one with Morbid Angel on the cover.

edit: Oh, and I saw Incantation and Vital Remains back to back last night, and thought to myself at one point "I bet John would of loved this".  And then as everyither time a message board personality comes up in my thoughts, I give myself a scrunched face of confusion.
