I've always wanted to know the difference between grindcore, power violence, and fastcore. I'm a big fan of Chokehold's content with dying LP on Great American Steak Religion.

i'd actually say that that particular album (which was originally released as a cd on bloodlink) is atypical of great american steak, and at least musically is a lot closer to bands like earth crisis. that said, it's pretty goddamn good.

as far as grind/power violence/fastcore, i'm about to leave work or i'd explicate the whole thing. i'll get to it either tomorrow or thursday, so watch this space. Wink

I'm going to go with everyone else and say you need a blog. There should be more music blogs that focus on things besides the newest release. Your description was a lot of help and I look forward to your dissertation on grind/fastcore/power violence.

so would you pick a different genre every week, or how will it work?

i always assumed that suburban kids put their shows on in churches and fire stations and the like, while city kids used art galleries and abandoned restaurants and such.

i guess a notable exception would be the first unitarian church in philly. if you added up the hours i've spent in that sweaty basement seeing the best bands of the late 90s/early 00s, i bet it'd be almost as long as the late 90s/early 00s.

well jeb, i don't know how i would do things. i guess i would probably just write about whatever i was enthused about that week, and go into as much detail as possible about history and the evolution of that particular sound or band or whatever. that's but one of several things i'd want to do with a music blog, though, so we'll see what materializes (if anything).
