How does A Divided House compare with The Engine of Commerce? Maybe it was just a letdown after Everyone Wants the Honey, but I had trouble getting in to it. Too much electronic-sounding stuff, I think, and the songs were all a bit too long.

It's ok broseph. I just heard they discovered 12 Dads alive and well.

edit: The Grammar/Post Count Nazis shamed me into making some major revisions to my first post ever (on the internet!). Sorry to have let so many of you down.

What was the highest level? The capital D? the grocer's apostrophe? The tasteless, non sequitur humor? The inappopriate famliarity? The fact that this was his first post ever?

I'm gonna go with the apostrophe.

Oh snap! Someone call the grammar police, quick!

And since post counts mean so much, I'm going to add another notch to mine and tell you to suck my balls.

heh - well! I like it better than "Engine" - dirtier groove, feels more locked-in - to use a tired trope, it sounds like he means it. Compares to "Everyone Wants the Honey" for me, which I thought was a great album.

JD:

Hey, just stumbled upon your MDID review. Made me realize how long it's been since I've sat down with their records, and I pulled out Everybody Wants yesterday for kicks.

I think I'm now on spin number 5 in two days. Such a fucking beautiful record!

I've never met the man, but the Bedhead guys told me a story about him coming to a show of theirs in Cleveland. He shows up, supposedly in khaki shorts, sandals, and white tube socks; supremely dorky. Is very shy and awkward, but procedes to dance with reckless abandon and unbridled enthusiasm during their set.

Somehow, this seems absolutely right for the man behind MDID.

Can't wait to hear the new one. Thanks for the reminder. Hope all is well for thee.

Holy shit, this is my worst nightmare vision of myself. In my forties and still the only guy dancing at shows.

Andrew, seriously, get your hands on a copy of Everyone Wants the Honey. A great album for both rocking out and wallowing in depressing lyrics.

Of the albums up for download on their site, which one would be the best to start off with?

I'm not joking guys, I put The Best Defense on again today, and Anti-Socialist II ripped me to shreds.

What an amazing song.

Wow, after slowly absorbing "The Taller You Are, The Shorter You Get" for about a month and a half, I can say it's easily one of the best albums of 1989, and possibly even the 80's. I wish I could find a tangible copy rather than just MP3's, though. Even so, putting MP3's of your out-of-print albums on your website is a fabulous idea that a lot more artists should consider.

For some reason Audioscrobbler doesn't pick up the My Dad is Dead tracks.

If it did, it would show that I've listened to it twice as much as the next competitor these two weeks.

definitely.  should rival sebadoh's _III_ as the most crimininally out of print Homestead record (though that was just reissued recently).

In the meantime, you can download for free the early MDID stuff on http://www.mydadisdead.com
