oooh, totally. if you're digging that one, you should get the other two from the same period/lineup, "lark tongues in aspic" and "red". after that, i'd suggest "in the court of the crimson king," though i warn you it's a bit more 60s/hippie/psychedelia.

and
For the relatively later and relatively earlier stuff, respectively. I'd say Lark's Tongues is their best overall, with the addition of Bill Bruford on drums kicking it over the edge. But they're all pretty amazing up through Red.

i'm all about the 60s/hippie/psych
basically, starless is one of the best albums i've ever heard, and by far the best album i've ever heard on LSD (the cardigans' "first band on the moon" being the worst. take heed, guys. it's really an abrasive album on lsd)
i'm definitely checking out these three asap.

Red is fantastic, and In The Court Of The Crimson King is even better, if one ignores a particular ten minute stretch of it known as "Moonchild After The Actual Song Ends".

If you haven't seen it, you've got to see this clip of Crimson in '73, it's fucking amazing and it has the crazy-looking dude who played percussion with them for a short period:

Lark's, Starless, and Red are my faves, but honestly I think all their albums through that period are pretty awesome. In the Wake of Poseidon's definitely worth checking out if you like the first album, I think it's almost as good.

hell yeah! king crimson for president. no lsd required. all i meant by that was some albums on lsd are sort of like sleeping on rocks as far as comfort goes. king crimson is ridiculously good lsd music, IMHOROFL

you can chalk me up in the
larks
column, too. that's my favorite, with
starless
a somewhat distant second.
i need to listen to it all more, though.

The only impact Harmony Korine will have will be on the lives of the girls he slipped drugs to, got stoned and raped while they were passed out. An autobiographical scenario he chose to include in his average screenplay ‘Kids.' I’ll fuck your ass Cary Woods.
The man is a poet. Also, this is the gold standard by which all record reviews should be judged.
And King Crimson kinda rocks. I came to that conclusion after I was kidnapped by aliens who reprogrammed my brain not to hate prog rock anymore.

King Crimson, for me, pretty much is
Red
, on repeat. So fucking heavy, and, most importantly, so focused. The fact that "Starless" doesn't have even a second of sucking is beyond impressive.

anybody ever hear/see that king crimson box set? i know one exists, and i know it's an anthology-style set (as opposed to simply a collection of albums in one place), which wouldn't seem to work all that well in the context of the band. but i dunno...
