i read about that in an article yesterday. this is beautiful because it will actually give rich liberals the opportunity to back up their politics with action, which will hopefully then give the company enough profit so that they'll make an economical version, and then dudes like me can buy one too.

or hey, maybe they'll make an electric van, and then my bands can tour in one! that would be outstanding.

but first we gotta come up with a way to charge the batteries when you're not at your house.

fucking companies with major funds need to realize that electric cars just don't cut it unless we can come up with some crazy updates to the very fundamentals. i'm totally pissed with the whole zero-emissions scene right now. hydrogen shows some promise, but i don't trust that anything's going to happen until we actually start running out of black shit and people start panicking.

i mean, andrew, that economical version ain't gonna come. i'm sorry. but hopefully we'll get something even cooler, later on down the line on down the line.

The short answer is - there is no way to have clean, economical cars.

more promise than gasoline or electricity. you're right, it's not feasible now, although i wouldn't fully discount it for the future.


i see public transportation playing a very, very large role when the oil starts dwindling.

The production of hydrogen fuel is expensive and dirty and consumes a lot of resources.  Cleaner/greener production methods are way way more expensive and less effective.  Until wind or solar driven energy sources become more efficient and cheaper, making hydrogen fuel is still going to consume a whole fucking lot of fossil fuel, and isn't that what we're trying to avoid?

i know, which is why i said it's not feasible now. i'm just saying that if by some miracle or something, like, electrolysis becomes cheaper to do on a large scale.

i don't get what's wrong with the electric car above. are you just complaining about the price, and saying that they'll never be any cheaper? that IS a valid point. so is the point that even electricity uses some bad energy in its production. BUT if we put more nuclear power plants online, we could really cut down on that sort of thing. that's pretty much what's going to have to happen, too--more nuclear power. solar power can be used to augment electric car batteries, but i don't think you'll ever have widespread use of automobiles powered entirely by solar energy.

Even if fossil fuels are used to produce the energy for electric cars, the means used to convert fossil fuels to electricity is far more efficient than your internal combustion engine.

But yes, mass transit! I'm sure a solar-powered bus would be possible. We already have busses that run on natural gas and electricity.

it certainly is, don't get me wrong, it's a viable alternative to a modern sports car, but when they market it as something more (like, a viable model for zero-emissions cars in the future) is when i get disgruntled.

I'll admit that the classic two triangle frame design is far more attractive, but I've actually ridden a Nomad, and if you're into mountain biking, it is Godly.  Not to mention that comparing a completely rigid singlespeed to 6 inch front and rear travel, geared bike is like comparing apples and suspension bridges.
