Not that expensive but too expensive for a pedal that I'd be afraid to step on.

i wouldn't trust my foot anywhere near that thing.

What the hell is that thing supposed to sound like?

Does it matter? If my audio interface is any indication, if it looks cool, it sounds cool.

It's a Rat/TurboRat clone, which makes so little sense given the twee-tastic art but okay.

From the looks of it, it should be a pedal that makes you sound like Tullycraft.

I have one of these sitting in my Amazon wishlist.  It's actually not terribly expensive, but I keep spending money on other things.  Some day. . .

Dudes what is ten pounds in American dollars?
This is ridiculous. I want all of these shirts even though I wear plain-colored shirts 99.999% of the time. But look how cute:

£10 = $20 right now.  It's at the lowest since '91 or something.

Those things are soooooooo overrated. You'd be better off with a normal turntable and a nice audio interface.

So, uh, not rub it in, but I'm pretty sure I can kind of afford this:

The Neuros OSD, a sort of TiVo by the people that bought you the bulky-and-ugly-yet-charming ipod killer that Reese was all up ons for so long.

It does sound pretty awesome.  Free recording of cable or satellite stuff, right onto my sweet, sweet computer.

It's linux-based, DRM-free and all that other shit the Boingboing crowd can't get enough of.  I'm just trying to figure out if it's really worth my money.  Any thoughts?

Oh, yeah. Here's a link full of info.

a) It lacks a TV tuner, so no stamp of approval for me.
b) There are a million and one little boxes that do this. Clue me in to what makes this one special.

diesel has a point that not many people are looking for a standalone DVR nowadays. i guess the whole linux-based thing is cool?

neuros kind of lost their sparkle for me when they discontinued the neuros II and back-burnered R&D on the neuros 3 (which looked fuckin' amazing) to make room for these multimedia devices that i could give a fuck less about and which don't seem to be making many waves.

I have one of those. It's sitting right next to me now in fact. It does the job to my liking, but I have kind of weird hearing and honestly can't tell the difference between 128kbs mp3s and original CD recordings. I do appreciate that other people hear a huge difference and I'm not doubting that at all. But really, when I try to compare them I feel a bit like I'm admiring the Emperor's New Clothes, cos in truth it all sounds the same to me. I suppose I stood with my head in the speakers at one too many Loop gigs or something.

I guess I'm just wondering what this box does that damn near any mid-grade video card with the appropriate bells and whistles doesn't? And I mean... Linux or otherwise, I don't see why a video capture device requires an OS. Basically, turning your computer into a DVR just isn't mystic sorcery these days.

*shrug* YMMV, no?

I guess I'm a person who listens to vinyl for the express purpose of having better sound quality, so people going all OMGWTFBBQ! on this because it plugs into your USB port don't really thrill me. I'm usually suspicious of boxes that have everything crammed into them anyway and for me, the vinyl is the terminal medium. Sure, I record it all for use with the iPod, but even that's kind of a pain in the ass for me because you have to record in real time, noodle with SoundSoap to clean up all the crap, and then I usually even everything out with Ozone.

But hey, I'm anal. If the USB dealie works, it works.

What the hell were they thinking with this.  I went to the website awhile back to finally order a neuros II and it had been discontinued about two weeks prior.

i don't think they were. they had the web's audiophile community abuzz with the N3, but then they just decided that video was more important. i think they jumped the gun and went in a little too deep with all these multimedia devices and this tv shit. the neuros II is definitely dated, though. everyone, seriously everyone asks wtf is up with the giant MP3 player. everyone just looks at it and asks what it is. i'm thinking about getting a cowon iaudio X5 while they still exist, because they just discontinued it, but newegg still has a few 30giggers. the cowon is just a much nicer player than the neuros, too.
