i don't care about showing off. i care about the fact that i could put on a blue cheer record at such mind-shearing volume that it would sound loud even when i'm across the house in the shower. i love listening to music loud.
that said, looking at those speakers, i'm guessing i'd never have to turn them up past 1, though.

funny enough, i chilled at a co-workers house for a bit after i got off, and he had two of those, though i think they were 500s, and it wasn't bad at all.

It's funny: when all I had was a 40gb drive on my desktop, I didn't worry about space that much. Since I got that Macbook with a 160gb drive, I've been downloading so much television/pirated music/movies/porn/etc., that I feel I need another huge drive.

the point of those speakers, jeb, is to be large and imposing and expensive. they'd be sweet if you needed to fill a concert hall with sound. they won't sound that good in a room the size of anything in a normal house.
i'd take a pair of avalons or mid-size wilsons before those.
or these

I heartily endorse speakers that were designed by Dr. Seuss

Yeah, that's my point - in any reasonably sized house, this is complete overkill. I understand (to some extent) the desire for good, loud speakers, but you can get those in sizes that aren't designed to awe (or scare) anyone who walks in by their sheer dimensions, even if they're mute. These speakers to me look like the kind whose main function is to prove to anyone walking by that their owner is incredibly rich and incredibly sophisticated, not to actually sound good, because it is perfectly possible to get good, rich sound on speakers that are not the size of two persons.
Also, Reese's point that they just won't sound that good in a normal-sized room sounds convincing. Also, they're ugly. The ones Reese posted a picture of, on the other hand - those look quite awesome.
(edit: that said, I don't think or want to imply that your admiration of those speakers are about wanting to show off, Andrew - just that I'd be a little suspicious of the motives of anyone who
actually
bought those for their living room, and I'd wager that in about 95% of those people, I'd be right in my suspicions)

Okay. So I don't pay much attention to fashion, especially trendy stuff, especially shoes, especially sneakers. I - generally speaking - could not give a rusty fuck about your flash Nikes or whatever the hell you have on your feet. One of my friends, however, has gotten really into a sort of hip-hop related fashion obsession recently, and she sent me
this link.
I give in. Uncle. I want those shoes.

I figure you have to treat 'em more like dress shoes than standard sneakers. I tend to kill my shoes too.

re: speakers--no fear, y'all, even if i could afford those speakers i'd never drop the money on them.
re: huge external hard drive--i just had to delete a bunch of music off my 80 gig because it was getting full, and now i'm feeling like i need a bigger one as well. my friend brandon has a 500 gig drive, and i would love to have one of those myself, but he bought his on sale, and it was still $150 (i think). too much.

Can we just go forward under the assumption that I want everything Apple ever makes? There's a new touch screen iPod that's just like the pretty iPhone, but without the pesky phone. The Nano has video now, and the "Classic" iPod has 100 GB more storage than mine and is now made of metal rather than scratch-prone plastic. Plus, iTunes will be available through wi-fi.
*sigh* It's all so shiny!

I was about to say I wish I'd waited on my Nano, but it's so so full with music that I can't fit everything I want on it, so having video with no more storage space would be useless for me.
