I fucked up - it should be rice milk not soy.  Only because I like rice milk better.

It is really intense, but so good.  After finishing our drinks I looked at my dude and was like "You know we just ate half a pound of pumpkin and a banana each?  Through a straw?"

Next time I might just use canned pumpkin and sprinkle in some nutmeg and cinammon - the pie filling was a little too sweet.

I'd like a thread (or possibly a call-in radio show) called "MountMccabe Drops Science," in which people pose chemistry-related (or otherwise) questions to MMC, and you know.  He drops the science.  But I don't think I can be the one to start that thread if it's going to thrive. My threads, they all die pretty fast.

Hahahaha.  My voice/temperment/nervousness is not made for radio.

Hey, so I have this can of tahini that needs using. Any recipe suggestions?

I was thinking of trying some kind of halva- but I baked (pumpkin) cookies earlier in the week, so I don't really want to make another sweet thing just yet.

you're an evil man, mccabe.

everytime i've eaten fridge bread lately all i could think about was the millions of dormant mold spores i'm chewing on.

But don't worry about mold spores you can't see on fridge bread.  It's dormant, there's so little of it there it's not going to hurt a human that's averagely healthy.

man, i don't find mold disgusting at all. i mean, i won't eat it, but that's because i don't know much about it. if i knew it were an innocuous mold i would totally consume it. mold is fascinating!

Oo!  That does sound great!

Aside from the Moosewood cookbooks, which I've repped for before, I'll second the Joy of Cooking.  It's a really good starting point for pretty much everything.  I can't tell you how many times I've used it for simple stuff like, "How long do I boil a hard-boiled egg?"  It's pretty indispensible for an amateur like me.

It's definitely worth it, vegetarian or not, to have a couple of really great vegetarian cookbooks, and I've heard fantastic things about the one Heather mentioned

So, I mean, if those two veg cookbooks you got ain't nothin' special, toss 'em and get something better!  It'll be worth your while

Oh no, mine are great but were already mentioned, but I felt sad that I didn't have more new info of vegetarian worth to add. I have a lot of cookbooks.

Alison Holst's Meals without Meat
The Edmond's Cookbook (most of the savoury stuff is crap, but the sweet things are great)
Nothing but Muffins (by the Kimi Ora Primary school)
Take our Bread (darling wee book with great bread, and lots of ways of saying grace from all over the world)

These are all New Zealand ones. None are going to make you real fashionable  expensive cuisine, but they will all provide very good things to eat.

I've started making chilli beans and rice, which so many people I know live off (keeps well, reasonably healthy, endless varieties possible, CHEAP) using "sticky" sushi rice, which improves it by about 50%.

david rosengarten - taste

I can't stand david rosengarten, seeing his face makes me strat punching walls, but his food is DELICIOUS. He's the very opposite of a vegetarian, though.
