Saw these dudes live at the 40 Watt a few weeks back, and was not familiar with them other than a few songs and as the backing band on the Mary Weiss album.  I liked the Oblivians, sure, but had sort of not listened to them in a while.

The show was absolutely great.  Bought a record the next day, but it wasn't "Love & Curses". I'm off to eMusic to get that one right now.

You can hear a song from the new Greg Cartwright acoustic Live At The Circle A album on Dusty Medical here:

I saw the Love & Curses in the store a couple of days ago. Will be getting it next week.

For the record, I got Love & Curses off emusic almost immediately after reading your entry, and have been enjoying it quite a bit since. Thanks!

Reigning cemented their epicness when Dangerous Game (that record where they backed Mary Weiss from the Shangri-Las). When you see a band do something like that, it tells you "hey fuckers, we have a meaningful inner musical life-- our shredding is informed and deliberate."

Pretty bad record though. I was super excited about it but really disappointed once it hit my turntable. Couple of good tracks but more let-downs. Everything about the project seemed perfect except the result.

I posted this a while back but thought it'd be worth posting again. Greg Cartwright interview with buddyhead. Mostly about the recent Oblivians reformation (including footage) but various other shit as well.
