hmm I'm currently reading Choosing Death - The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grindcore... and that Earache comp looks like the perfect soundtrack.

I don't usually buy compilations... but six discs?

And for FIFTEEN BUCKS?!  Regardless of the fact that it's got some awesome shit on it, I'd buy that just on principle.

I traded in a whole bunch of DVDs that I never watch in preparation for my move, and I picked up these with some of the credit:

The Bathory album was used... I don't think I would've picked it up otherwise, because I've heard that the Nordland stuff isn't that great. But for $6 on a trade in, I figured why not. I was hoping to get Terrifyer instead of Prowler in the Yard, too, but they didn't have it.

god made the right choice for you, in that case

although the extra right choice would have been to get both

I just bought that Behold... The Arctopus album a couple weeks ago. I really liked them when I heard them a few months ago. But I listened to it once, found it boring and haven't listened to it since. I should give it another shot today. That being said, I'm still excited about their full-length. I wonder what their gonna do for 40+ minutes without getting too repetitive though.

I heard it several months ago at a friend's house and I really liked it then, so I bought it on the strength of that. Of course, we were drinking, so maybe that influenced my perception of it.

All of the sudden, it occurs to me that it's really cool that I have friends with whom I can sit around and drink and listen to Behold... The Arctopus with. On the other hand, the only other thing I remember from that night was that someone put on some really terrible metalcore band called "Sickth," or something. It was like... half-assed Naked City with by-the-numbers screamo vocals on top... So maybe not so cool after all.

Feist - The Reminder

Okkervil River - The Stage Names

Only about a quarter of the way through the Okkervil River, but I have a very good feeling about it.

I'll give it another listen tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hatin'. In fact when I first heard Behold... The Arctopus I was blown away. I was announcing that it was one of my favorite bands right away. But for whatever reason, the last time I listened to them I wasn't into it.

[on the other hand, i hate the new locust. i think i've said that on this board before, but i feel compelled to say it as often as is appropriate, since so many people seem to be into it.

New Erections definitely has a different feel to it than some of their older stuff... it's a lot more synth heavy, I guess. I don't know if the difference between it and Plague Soundscapes is really all that huge, though...

the big thing that's wrecked it for me is that they gave the lion's share of the vocal duties to joey instead of justin. so instead of screams, we get this weird rock-singing vocal sound, which i think is totally inappropriate to how the locust usually sound. also, the grind/hardcore stuff they've always done is mostly sidelined or minimized on this album in favor of weird noises and rock-sounding riffs. i don't like any of that either. the weird noises were always there, don't get me wrong, but i preferred it when they were the sideline and the grind/hc stuff was the main attraction (and in case you're wondering, yes, this does mean that i hate the song "flight of the wounded locust"). the only song on "new erections" that really sounds like what i like the locust to do is track 2.

I finally got this:

and just loaded it up on the ipod and am about to listen.  wheee!

Welcome aboard!

Quote from: milesofsparks
also, I'm doubly excited, because the guy at Sound Fix didn't know about the Bowerbirds and ordered the CDs because I asked him to and stocked them front and center and said he gave it a listen and really likes it.  I feel so bowerful!

Fixed. Wink
