Windir are folk inspiried black metal yes.  And that line is definately my favorite too in that album Pook.  It's the best thing he has done in a while...mostly because his albums are too long for their own good and are marred by too many tracks that are just boring bombast.  This doesn't go into that for much later then usual.

Like I said, it's rockin' as shit.  It sounds like all those old psychedelic records my dad's got in his collection.

Bought a shitload of vinyl at both Amoeba and Rasputin in the past two days, so essentially this San Francisco trip has been the time of my life:

Ornette Coleman - Free Jazz
Smog - The Doctor Came at Dawn
Husker Du - Zen Arcade
Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
The Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat
Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
Joy Division - Closer

Might I add that all of these are HUGE AND BEAUTIFUL.

Just ordered the J. Tillman - I Will Return / Long May You Run double CD reissue. I've been waiting for this for a long time and just found out that it's now available. These are two of my all-time favorite records. And it's only $12.99 for both (plus $4 S+H)! What a deal. You can get it in the US at www.sonicboomrecords.com and in Europe through Fargo.

mid-western hardcore, sort of old-school in that they have a yelling-to-the-point-of-esophagus-damage singer, sweet guitar riffs, breakdowns and pensive interludes, and sold no-frills drumming...

I make it sound not so distinctive, but they are my favorite hardcore band currently making music.

Off the top of my head--and I'm not saying they're like TEH BEST REKKIDS EVAH, but they're pretty psyched out:
Crazy World of Arthur Brown
The Blues Magoos - Electric Comic Book
The Frost - Rock and Roll Music (this is particularly crucial Detroit garage psyche stuff)

Next time I'm home, I need to tape some of these albums.

Ah, cool, thanks for lettng me know. Yet another addition to my wishlist.

Meanwhile, I picked up these in Berlin, all on CD:

Taku Sugimoto - Italia

Loren Connors & David Grubbs - Arborvitae

and as an impulse buy (on the basis of a song I'd heard on a mix at some point and because I saw in the same label section as the Connors/Grubbs CD) and to make up for the fact that the disc for the third album I wanted to buy (the Keith Rowe/Oren Ambarchi collaboration on Staubgold) was impossible to find and that the empty digipack, while certainly pretty, just didn't hold the same appeal to me, I also bought this:

3/4HadBeenEliminated - A Year Of The Aural Gauge Operation

I just got these in the mail.

Against Me! - New Wave 12" (180 gram translucent yellow vinyl)
Against Me! - Thrash Unreal 7" (Limited Edition)
The Mountain Goats - Coroner's Gambit CD

Vinyl just makes me so happy!

yeah, that is a terrible, terrible cover

only in the rarest of circumstances should an artist be allowed to put his own face on the album cover
