The weird thing is that the movie bends over backwards to make him seem like he's still just a regular guy; there's very very very little mention of his previous exploits. It's kind of bizarre.

I totally forgot how badass
Das Boot
is!
Also,
Friends Forever
was pretty entertaining. I think Jeb or Andrew posted something about it a while back...

I'm glad at least most of the folks up ins had my back on the Babel-hate. Seems like whenever I see one of these overhyped effete mainstream-indie films (Little Miss Sunshine, Stranger Than Fiction, Babel, &c) and end up hating it everyone's all ready to be like "BACKLASH" when really they just aren't very good. Babel was truly a horrendous pile of shit, though. I'd put it on the same shelf with Crash.

But
Crash
was a sensitive and nuanced discussion of race relations in America that no one has had the courage to ever have before! Ever!

O gods, I just saw Live Free Or Die Hard.
There is the longest fucking essay just waiting to be written about this film.
In fact, I think I'm going to try to get a bootleg DVD off the street and work on that.
Holy fuck, I have never seen a movie that screamed "Fertile Territory For Critical Analysis" like this one did.
Oh and also it was pretty kick-ass.
You can watch it again

Yes! Based on my taste in film, I shouldn't like this movie, but I'm crazy in love with it.

well the only attempt at the movie having a message were the conversations he had with justin longs computer nerd character as all this chaos was going on about was 'look what hell you hackers hath wrought - these are just regular people going about their ordinary lives. anarchy is not cool' that and the recurring ccr 'fortunate son' motif.

I just watched Little Children. The movie was wonderful and scarey at times. I thought that Narrator voice was kinda awkward, but by the end of it I liked it and felt it fit. I always kinda like it when i am thinking about what the main point of the movie is, and then there is a moment in the movie which clearly states the point...and it was exactly what I was thinking. I was never very good at that in highschool english, so i take pride of tha kind of stuff when I can get it.

About a decade ago, I saw
House of Exorcism
, which is this abysmal movie released after
The Exorcist
. It combines a wretched imitation of that film with atmospheric flashback scenes that came from Mario Bava's
Lisa and the Devil
, which didn't find a U.S. distributor in its intact form. I was captivated by those scenes and have wanted to see
Lisa
ever since, but I only got around to it tonight. It remains a striking film, tapping into powerful dreamlike currents that don't so much resist narrative as disregard it; with little sex or even the violence for which he was known, Bava was operating with supreme confidence here, relying on mood and aura. Nothing could live up to a decade of anticipation, but this has a trancelike quality that makes me want to watch it again, maybe alone at 2am some night.

Unrequited love for Colin Farrell?
The online copy of
Live Free or Die Hard
is a surprisingly good copy. I fell asleep like half way through it, but I'm watching the end of it again right now.

Maybe it's the fact that I'm just starting this noir kick. Maybe it's all the Campari and gin talking. But goddamn if Lauren Bacall in
The Big Sleep
isn't the most gorgeous specimen of womanhood I've seen in an age.

No, your judgment is not in any way impaired, she's flat out gorgeous.
I saw
Libeled Lady
today. I enjoyed it quite a lot more than I expected to. I thought it would be one of those "wacky" 30s comedies, but it was really excellent--well-rounded characters, great acting from all four leads, what's not to like?! (Was it blucas who told me about this one? Thanks!)
