Also I don't think there's anything weird about craving gyros at odd times of the day.


I am going to head over to Taste of Chicago for lunch today, I think today is the first day.  I can eat anything I want, ANYTHING YOU HEAR ME

This has nothing to do with what I'm craving, 'cause I'm certainly not craving it, but I ate jellyfish the other night!  That's right, I said it, jellyfish!  Also I ate eel for the first time in my life, but I couldn't bring myself to eat the tiny little perfectly intact squid that made up one of the side dishes.  Oh, I also tried some weird kind of shellfish!  It was really chewy and unpleasant.

Uh, I also ate dog soup a couple of weeks ago.

Pfft, don't be like that.  It's not like they raid homes and steal people's pets.  The dogs are raised specifically for meat, just like cows or pigs, and they're even a special breed.  Besides, cows are really cute but I eat them anyway -- why should it be different with dogs?

Ok, cool, I can get behind vegetarianism, mostly because the idea of eating animals freaks me out a lot (though I still do it).  I don't really like it that people who eat any kind of meat get all preachy about other cultures eating other kinds of meat, though.  "Oh my god, they eat guinea pig in Ecuador?  BARBARIANS!" 

Edit: I understand that it might be emotionally difficult to eat an animal similar to one you've kept as a companion (dog or cat or whatever), but I don't see how any sort of morals can be brought into it at all.  Y'know.

I would love to be a vegetarian...problem is, I'm not crazy about vegetables.


edit: I was a vegetarian for like 6 months once when I was a teenager.  I ate a shitload of pasta.

I started vegetarianism eating basically nothing but various iterations of cheese/bread (cheese pizza!  cheese enchiladas!  grilled cheese!  cheese lasagna!)  and soy products, but slowly worked more and more veggies into my diet, finding way to cook them that taught me to love them.  Even if I go back to meat at some point, it's made my diet a lot better.

Mindy made a wilted spinach salad the other night with a bunch of bacon in it, goddamn that was good.

Last night we had some green thai curry with chicken and peas and basil leaves

Tonight: spanakopita! 

And soon I will head to Grant Park and eat, hell, I don't know, something.
