Two shots of whiskey and then off to a meeting at work...
The meeting is going to be about how to use coax cable....

...Make it three shots, bartender

Roffles.  Hey brother, do you have any connections at the Omaha Menards?  I have potential ideas brewing.

Hrm... Not really...  I know the guy who runs the Millwork Department... his name is Parker, but he has nothing to do with hiring unless they're looking for an employee in the Millwork dept.

But hey it can't hurt to apply there.  They pay better than the Menards out here.

Hmm.  Okay.  Cool.  Here's why I ask.  I've got a couple potential leads for tech related jobs that I'm pursuing at the moment.  But if those fall through I've pretty much decided that I'm gonna try school again.  I noticed that Omaha Metro has an electronics program which includes some networking stuff and an A+ Certification which is more along the lines of what I want to do as opposed to what I studied in Milford.  And I figured with my construction experience I should be able to get into Menards or Ace or something pretty easily, and someplace like that I could hopefully get decent hours that would still be flexible enough to work around classes and other frivolities.

Also, gonna do these:

Go to a ribfest.  Eat ribs.  Go to pub.  Drink microbrews.  Go to lake.  Go swimming.  Not necessarily in that order.  I might swim first.  We'll see what time dictates.  Will report back.

This didn't go exactly as planned.  I went to the ribfest which was sweet and then ran into a few people who bought me beers and convinced the people at the beer tent to give me two beers for one ticket and such, and by the time I left it was late enough that the brewpub was closed and the weather was kinda chilly for nightswimming.  Still a good night, though.  Ribs.

Gonna start a fight.
By which I mean continue to waste time on the internet until my friend calls and then go hang out on his porch because it is a porch hang out on kind of night and also probably restart my computer four times in the interim because this internet connection is horrible and I do not listen to the Lord when He is trying to tell me to go home, already.

My summer class starts tomorrow. It's something like American Education Culture and History. I'm sure it'll be a boring class, especially when classes are 2:20 long. It's not all bad though; I'll have an hour and a half to listen to music on the ride to and from class, plus I'll have opportunities to meet people. And I'll be able to check out stuff from the library any day I'm up there. I haven't had anything to read for the last 2 weeks.

Cool.   Yeah all three of the Menards that I have worked for have been very good at getting me time off when I need it, especially for school stuff.   If you can get a couple of letters of recommendation I think that generally helps a whole lot when they're looking to hire folks.   Good luck!

Bloody hell, it's really humid!  I'm completely sticky and uncomfortable.  The fan's just not doing anything tonight.  I sort of hate air conditioning, because I can never get the temperature right, but I think I'm gonna turn it on.

Just for the record, the air conditioning is completely delightful already.  Now I'm hoping to sleep.

Man, I don't know how anyone can get to sleep w/out air conditioning.  I guess it's all just what you're used to.

ceiling fan, open window, being ass-nekkid.  I guess I'd rather have AC but I think it can only be a good thing that I'm used to doing without.  I'm going to have to break down and buy a window unit or two before too long though.

I prefer sleeping with just the window open, but I hate air conditioning a lot.  Right now I won't open my window 'cause the screen isn't actually attached well, so there's a big gap and I am terrified of the mosquitos here (they tend to eat me alive), so I'm not taking any chances.

Sad.  Sad

I sleep with my bed right next to an open window and I have two box fans blowing right on me.   To fall asleep I just lay there and imagine I'm on a ledge on Mt. Teewinot and there is a soft mountain breeze flowing over my body and in my hair and in about 90 seconds POOF I'm out.

I have decided to not use the air conditioner for as long as possible this summer only partly due to the incident last summer when I left town for a week and LEFT THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNNING because in my logic I would be coming  home to a cooled-down house and that was awesome and then was shocked--shocked!--by the $60 electric bill that was left in its wake. I had a box fan blowing directly on me last night and it was pretty comfortable.

Basically guys I give you this sacrificial anecdote because sometimes I am really, really dumb.

$60 electric bill

That's all?!

I guess I never think about how different utility bills are down herer versus various other locations around the country.  Mine is not too exorbitant (usually around $100-120 per month during the summer) but that's because I live in a glorified shack, but I know people with medium to larger houses that pay around $350-$400 per month this time of year.

I live in a low-income- as-deemed-by-electric-company area so generally speaking my bills are bout $10.

Damn, that's sweet.  I'd give damn near anything to get a $10 electric bill.

I guess I'm going to read through the updated LPTJ threads, but there sure are an awful lot of them. That's kind of a disincentive. Maybe I'll just hit the movie and masturbation ones.

We haven't turned on our A/C yet either. It's been surprisingly tolerable through the days in the low 90s we've had lately.  We discovered last summer that our A/C is pretty worthless anyway. First, we live in a HUGE and OLD house, which is far from well-sealed. Also, the central air was retrofitted into the house at some point in time, and done in a pretty mediocre fashion. Thing barely does anything to cool the upstair where the bedrooms are anyway.  Our electric bill is generally about 70 bucks a month, but last summer when we ran the A/C we were pushing 200.  At night a box fan in the window at just the right angle so it blows on me a little bit and wearing only boxers gets me to sleep alright.  Also booze.  Booze helps me sleep.

Yeah, but how much do you pay for heat in the winter?  That's what kills us in the upper midwest.  You pay a lot in the summer, we pay a lot in the winter.  It evens out in the end, right?  In the last house I was renting out in Milwaukee, my roommates and I regularly got $175 heating bills in the winter.  It was sad, especially considering that we were pretty much always cold anyway.  Sad

Yeah here in central Nebraska we had our thermostat at around 62-65 all winter and still got $190-225 bills from November through March.  Now that it's summer our gas bill is down to about 25 bucks a month.  We refuse to turn on the AC but we still pay around 90 bucks a month for electricity.  I guess we have a lot of fridges and computers.
