Lists, Part 17: Lister Bangs
«
on:
Jun 14, 2007, 10:07:14 AM »
A nearly-complete list of phrases I said to the beautiful wide-eyed curvaceous girl on the subway last night, who startled me somewhat when she sidled up to me and said in a breathy unrecognizable European accent, "How do you like that Joan Didion book you are reading? I think she is AMAZING... Just AMAZING."
:
1) "ah, haha"
2) "ga"
3) "ba"
4) "Didion"

Ways in which my cat is like Bushwick Bill:
1) Lives in Bushwick
2) Is smaller than me
3) Is the biggest little motherfucker I know
4) Enjoys snuggling

Actually, it was neither; she brought it up just as she was getting out at her stop. I started to say something about A Book of Common Prayer, then the doors closed. Then, suddenly, you hear a rumbling. You look up just in time to see rocks tumbling from the ceiling.
EARTHQUAKE!
As the stones crush your trachea, your last thought is, "I never should have followed the Professor into this cave."
To start again, turn to Page 1.

awesome things my soon to be ex-roommate has already bequeathed me:
a plastic holga camera
a bike with many awesome stickers
an almost full can of ghee
a lychee plant
a faux papyrus grown from a cutting nabbed from the Frick Museum
a bunch of handblown glasses
a kick-ass apartment
...and I'm sure there will be more once she actually starts packing.

we grew it (before I left for grad school) from a lychee seed! we also grew a coffee plant from a coffee bean and a palm tree that's now about 6' tall from a date. I love growing things... someday I will have a real garden.

our basil and beans are both growing wonderfully! the only problem is we've nowhere to put them, as they're getting entirely too large for their pots!

sophcw, please change your username as it keeps giving me the impression that my little sister has finally given up lurking and has begun posting. And if this were to happen my head might explode. Also, if you're reading this hi sis, I'll text you when my plane lands and see you on friday. If you've broken the caravan I will kill you.

You all should be thankful that you live on a sunny side of a building. We live on the north side of our building, and thus nothing requiring direct sunlight will grow properly. My basil is doing alright, actually, but the rest of my herbs have bit the dust.

things that are going to get old pretty quickly:
-kitten's tendency to jump in every box ever as it is being packed, stacked, shut, or constructed
-the somewhat broken packing tape dispenser
-everyone else crying about moving
-the amount of realizing that I've packed something I need. like the scissors. again.

Things that could happen on my flight to Chicago:
- I could vomit
- I could totally pull a Bill Shatner/John Lithgow (you know what I'm talkin' about...)
+ I could strike up a nice conversation with a beautiful woman
+ Said beautiful woman could invite me to stay in her luxurious penthouse rather than in the hostel
- I could vomit on said beautiful woman before graciously accepting her offer
+ I could join the actual 'Mile High Club'
- I could get locked in the bathroom
- I could pee all over myself while using the bathroom as the plane encounters turbulence
+ I could discover that I actual
like
flying (not a snowball's chance in hell)

I would suggest these two.

I suggest you join the mile high club by snowballing.
But this reminds me of something....which can go elsewhere.

I always hope that something like that will happen when I'm flying. I'll meet an attractive stranger, and we'll have a short but passionate affair. There was a cut guy sitting like 10 rows behind me on a plane once, and that's as close as I've come.
Flying is AWESOME though. I love it. Hopefully you will too.

Oh, I've flown before. I can't stand it. It's been a long time, but I don't think things will have changed...well, except for my having access to xanax, which could make the whole thing just dandy.
edit: I totally meant to post the original post in the +/- thread...oh well.

there was a gorgeous blonde girl next to me on my flight back from england in jan. 2005. we ended up having a really good conversation at one point, too. however, both of us were returning from seeing people we had romantic feelings for after not having seen them for a long while, and it had gone badly for both of us, so rather than being a pre-hookup conversation, it was a commiseration conversation. still, it was pleasant on the whole.

Types of pain experienced today:
* Period pain so bad I could barely walk
* Ulcer pain aggravated by stupid idea of dabbing the affected area with Marmite
* Head pain from when I bent forward by the open window to pick something up and then, when I got up, banged the top of my head hard against the window frame
Not my day.
