So is your problem with her roles, or with her acting, or with me? Because I will fight you.

I don't hate her or anything, she just kind of bores me and I think there are better actors out there.  Which I why I compare her to that Shia LaBeouf dude.  Because they're inexplicably everywhere all of the sudden.  My only point was that calling me out for liking cheesy teen movies while reppin' for Anne Hathaway is major lolz.

nny, did you see Havoc?

'cause it would make you hate Anne Hathaway. It is way way way way bad, and she is way totally awful in it.

PS do not see it, ignorance is bliss in this case.

But it is speeeeeeeeeeaking to you on your levvvvvvvvvvvel. Also given your love of teen movies I am kinda surprised that Princess Diaries is not among them.
I have never seen Havoc, also.

Also, I'm a little late re:anime, but if you haven't seen Serial Experiments Lain, fucking see it.
Word. This one's quick and easy, and it's a fun little trippy mindfuck. So do it. This from someone who doesn't like anime.

Singapore Sling, um, WTF?!  I found it in Whit's movie queue.  It said (among other things*) "Greek film noir".  It keeps referring to the plot of Laura.  People throw up a lot in it.

* full disclosure, Netflix blurb:
Quote
In pursuit of a woman he once knew, Detective Singapore Sling is lured into the clutches of a murderous mother-daughter duo that has perverse plans for the unfortunate gumshoe. Directed by Nikos Nikolaidis, this gruesome Greek film noir will shock and disturb even the most impervious viewer as the women sadistically torture the wounded investigator in an orgy of sexual perversion and unrelenting violence.

edit:  and now the girl is masturbating with a kiwi fruit.  I repeat, WTF?

Finally saw this. I liked it, although the BDSM stuff doesn't really float my boat. I'm baffled as to why the only context in which I've ever seen it discussed has been grindhouse/exploitation/kink, because it seems better aligned with, say, Eraserhead or Peter Greenaway at his nastiest.

And Chris, you mentioned the puke and the masturbation, but you failed to mention that they often occurred at the same time, which I think is an important point of order. Also, the mother raping the maid with a strap-on before disemboweling her . . . that was kinda odd.

I didn't want to give away all the. . . um . . . best parts.  (?)

(And for the record, I love Greenaway.  I think it's a bit of a disservice to compare this to him.  Even at his worst, his films are gorgeous.)

But Singapore Sling is gorgeous too! The cinematography is straight out of 40s noir!

I'm not saying Nikos Nikolaidis is equal to Greenaway, but this film does straight-up own, say, 8 1/2 Women any day.

Point taken, but I'd have a hard time recommending it to anyone.  It was pretty gross.  (also, I like 8 1/2 Women--it's not a favorite, but there are some high points, and really good dialogue)

I, on the other hand, would recommend it to anybody, but that's only 30% because I liked it (which I did, but not passionately), and 70% because I'm a terrible person.

I saw a pre-screening of Superbad last night, which was pretty fucking hilarious.  Better than Knocked Up, I think.

3. I would like to see you try and sing "Somebody To Love" while wearing a dress and being filmed.

Will do!

are we talking about "somebody to love" by queen? if so, i've DONE that. just not on film.

Anne Hathaway is right up there with Shia LaBeouf in the "why the fuck do they keep getting cast in shit" category.

In other news, Shia LaBeouf is going to be Yorick in Y: The Last Man.  It's going to be directed by the guy who did Disturbia.  I hate life.

dude, i was watching the episode of "freaks and geeks" where sam becomes the basketball team's mascot last night, and i happened to notice in the credits that the original mascot, the one who broke his arm, was played by none other than shia lebeouf. who knew?

Andrew, I was going to link to the post I made on page 11 of this thread that had a screengrab of Shia LaBeouf from that episode, but I guess the photo was taken down from whatever site I stole it from, so never mind! I cannot be smug!

That is a great movie, now you should watch Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, those are sort of an imaginary trilogy, you've got the fantasist as an adult in Brazil, as a child in Time Bandits, and as an old man in Munchausen, or at least Gilliam once said in an interview that he kind of thought of those films in that way, also in Munchausen there's a song called the Torturer's Apprentice that is played on an organ that is made from human pain, it's weird and funny and mostly weird and awful of course too but in a funny way.  I really liked that movie but not too many people did I understand.  Oh well.

It's just a really fun movie though.

I watched The Proposition tonight based on dkT's recommendation.  Thanks Dennis!  That was a good movie, a fucking bleak bloody brutal-ass western written by Nick Cave.  Well paced, shot beautifully, great performances, I don't know, I recommend it if you haven't seen it.
