As I tend to drink local brews wherever I am, I haven't tried the US Guinness, but from what I've heard the rumours are true.

Also, I have a recording of The Gandalfs during their first ever Irish performance (1996) where the lead singer can be heard to say "Man, do you know how great it is to have fresh Guinness when you've been drinking out of cans your whole life?"

Anyway, your first pint of plain is on me when you get here.

In addition to the fried potatoes there were fried biscuits.  Fried biscuits are crispy golden happiness.  I also brought many friends and some fine homebrewed beer and everyone brought food and it was just a good time. 

Oh man, that does sound great.  Those potato chips look astounding, by the way.

SPACER- I don't recall you mentioning it (you might have, but I never have the time to read LPtJ forensically, so some stuff passes me by), but Johnp did mention that he'd encountered you.  Not, alas, while you were in the middle of your bike parking 'routine', but that's a minor pity.

Anyway, it now seems I might have to revise my initial offer.  The first round is on me- Jim, cf, SPACER, and maybe a-d-f, who's coming for a bit of cooler air.

Some friends of mine are going to Belgium next April and if I'm a very good boy and happen to fall into a large pile of money between now and then I might get to go!  Ireland would be awesome too.  My friend Neil goes there just about every year I think.  The perqs of making good money and not having kids to feed.

I haven't heard of the Provisional IRA doing much lately, but they use to run a very efective community watch in troubled areas. A little heavyhanded to the tastes of some, but only to those who don't understand the necessities of class war.
