so i've been putting in some serious hours on super mario sunshine recently, which i don't think i ever played much of with my brother when he got it back in the day (time honoured tradition with my many siblings to play through mario 64 taking it in turns to get a star, but we'd started to leave the family roost by the time sunshine came out), and it's been pretty much identical to mario 64 in most respects. so imagine my distress when i finally collect my 70th star i mean shine sprite and... nothing happens. now i'm resigned to just plugging through the stars with no knowledge of when something's gonna change, which is nice in a "i don't know exactly how this game's going to pan out" kind of way but frustrating because i thought i knew and now i'm just banging away at the levels again with no end in sight.

today i'm trading in eledees because it is LAME (i could write at length about its many lamenesses but i won't) so once again, if anyone has any wii recommendations i'd love to hear them. right now i'm thinking either metroid or maybe that endless ocean game or something, but i'm also thinking maybe that's intended for prettier TVs with nicer speakers than my own.

oh and also, has anyone played okami? it looks wesome but apparently it's far too easy.

oh and haha what about those crazy folks at nintendo sending everyone little silicon sleeves with big cushiony bits for their wii remotes? mine arrived monday i have to say, i thought they were hilarious at first but i decided they deserved at least a chance and after some roadtesting with resi4 last night i'm really pretty much all for them. feels so much more like you're holding the deluxe control pad the wiimote wants to be and so much less like you're sweating all over a mutated first generation ipod. weird.

I started it, and it's beautiful, but I got really bored with it really quickly.

Yeah, the game (Okami) never really becomes challenging.  I did play it all the way through though, simply mesmerized by the graphics.  And the gameplay was unique enough and there was enough of a story that it held my interest.  I can see that people might react like Greg though.

Yeah. The game is the first 10 hours, then there's an extra 20 tacked on for no reason which is boring and terrible. The game reaches a proper climax at least 3 times before you even go off to end. Also there's a stupid little bug who says something about boobs during every goddamned storyline conversation. Also, COLLECT SHIT OH MY GOD! I played through to near the end and just decided, fuck it, there's no way the game's ending could be better than the 3 other endings they've already given me.

Pretty, though.

You and Milly changed teams.  Terrible.  Milly's turret killed me like a billion times.

It was that autobalancing thing did it.
Plus the wrench! TWICE with the wrench.

I was killing dudes with the wrench today like it was my job.  Killed a medic and a heavy, back to back.

I'd be all about Super Mario Galaxy, except OOPS, "Released Nov 12" means "it ships from the factory in malaysia on Nov 12, so God knows when you'll actually be able to just pick it up in a store."

most stores got their copies in today or saturday, from what ive heard. lots of people got it early and whatnot. you should theoretically be able to get a copy easily wherever.

Psssh, tell that to the Target, Gamestop, and Best Buy that I tried before giving up.

I'm going to try to head out to Meijer tonight after work to find a copy.

I played the first few hours of Digital Devil Saga 2 last night. I never played the first one (too hard to find and too expensive if you find it), but since the beginning of part 2 basically says "everything in part 1 was just a computer simulation and now the real story begins," I don't feel like I'm missing out on much. It's a great cyberpunky spin on the MegaTen franchise so far, and the locations just ooze character and atmosphere. The main downside is that there's a random battle about every three steps you take, which started to drive me nuts after a while.

I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon and theoretically it should be shipping soon.  Pre-ordering from Amazon means never having to go to Gamestop.

Also, Heather, those screenshots were from Team Fortress 2, which is not a wii game.

God.

Last night I played TF2, guys, and I learned two strange things. 1. A dude from the other team snuck into the respawn area, I don't exactly know how but he was there, murdering respawners. 2. A soldier somehow got atop a rafter in the Intelligence room, I guess by rocket jumping... it was quite a surprise to my lil old Demoman to see rockets flaring into life from the above-darkness.

Join me next time, for more things learned in TF2 with your host, direct from Mehico.

send me more Xbox Live invites dudes, I need to be prodded into playing online sometimes, my old fuddy duddy self with my old-fashioned single-player games.  I mean, the Xbox 360 came with Dig Dug and do you know how much time I've spent on that?  Fucking Dig Dug?

serious though man let's do this.  Only not tonight 'cause I gotta help my kid finish his science project.  And not tomorrow 'cause it's my other kid's birthday.  Well maybe tonight, how long can the damn science project take anyway?
