Ennio Morricone is slowly climbing up my list of all time favorite musicians. I love how he incorporates an agglomeration of diverse instruments and make them sound beautiful together. He's like, hmmm I should write a piece for electric guitar, snare drum, harmonica and whistling... eh, I'll trow in some jew's harp too. Genius. He didn't go through the motions when writing for the smaller flicks, he brought it every time. Four out of five of these albums are extended, restored and imported releases from Italy.

And no, I didn't mean to post this in the pretty album covers thread though I very well could have.

I am getting stuck on opera. I have less freedom at work but this week I said fuck it and played a Don Giovanni under Furtwangler and then Friday we listened to Aida under Sinopoli.

During my commutes I listened to Vec Makropulos (Mackerras) in single act sections, a Duke Bluebeard's Castle that I didn't realize was in English (ugh) and the 4th act of Manon. Friday I started on La Traviata (Kleiber), which made it weird to go into the Aida but what can you do. Throw in some Zemlinsky overtures/interludes and that was my commutes. Oh, except for Over Bjoergvin Graater Himmerik by Taake that one day it seemed everyone on the bus was talking loudly.

At home it has been operas that the Met is doing this season: Faust, La Fille du Regiment, Tosca, and now Billy Budd. There has been other stuff but not much.

I want to listen to 2011 music for making lists and mixes but it doesn't appeal to me, much.

Feist - Metals

A perfect album to put on first thing in the morning, so that's what I did. I'm not completely sure, but I'm pretty sure that this is my favorite Feist album yet. Some great songs on this one.


Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children

I just recently got this after hearing some tracks a long time ago and making a mental note something along the lines of "this album is probably fucking great, you need to buy this someday". Guess what? It's as good as I expected.


Without Face - Astronomicon

Was in the mood for something different, so I decided to put this on. They were mentioned in one of lptj's very own blog posts a long time ago, which prompted me to buy the album. Gothic Metal with female vocals that occasionally sounds like Evanescence, if they were actually good. Not totally my cup of tea, but it's a pretty good album.


Tears for Fears - The Hurting

No idea why, but I was in the mood for something from the 80's, and with electronic bits, but for some reason this didn't hit the spot tonight. Only really enjoyed a couple of the tracks which is weird 'cause I really do like this album :/


Mozart - Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

Was getting in a mood I sometimes succumb to in which the prospect of listening to music seems like a chore and nothing sounds like it'd be fun to listen to. Classical is always a good way to refresh the old ears and get back into the mood. Just a little bit of 'Eine Kleine Nachtmusik' did the trick.


The Knife - Silent Shout

Listening now. I didn't get the want for some sort of electronic music out of my system yet, so this seemed like a good choice. It's going down a lot better than Tears for Fears did, I can tell you that. I was hoping I could fall asleep to this record, but nope...

Oma Yang - Bang Bang

OK, clearly not sleeping anytime soon, so I decided to put this on. Funny thing about this band, they were my first show ever. They opened for Thought Riot (the band I was there to see), and they seemed pretty cool. Instrumental, I guess Post-Rock, but not typically so. I've had this CD laying around for a while and just now decided to crack it open.

I haven't even seen this film, though it's got a great soundtrack. But since you reposted it maybe LPTJ can help me with something. There is a track on this album that immediately lit up my face, it's name is "Gangster's Theme". The reason why is because I'm definite that it was sampled and used in some electro/dance/lounge song, probably from the mid 90s, but I can't for the life of me figure out what song. I've tried googling but come up empty. Can any of you help me identify what song contains a sample from this track? The part that was sampled starts around 5:13.
