Ape-man is actually a lay term for the missing link species, though. It doesn't just mean, 'this creature which has features of an ape and a male human.'

I'm well aware of the use of Ape-Man, as well as his proclivities towards fucking with the Vegetable Cart, but that is straight-up incorrect in this context.  It's talking about a specific creature, and the creature is female.  FUCK, I just got incensed all over again.

I always thought it would be cool if say, Barbara Boxer declared her desire to be referred to as "Madam Senatrix".

Never having studied Latin, I had never even thought of such a thing until a few years back, when a friend was driving with me, and referred to herself, while looking at a map, as "The Navigatrix".

I'm not gonna lie; the word kind of got me a little hot.

At Noise Camp this year, I got a ribbon that says "fell in love with ape-man". I have no idea what it means.

BARF BARF BARF

i seriously saw this title and thought "i've had trouble with that in the past... let's see what dude says", and i click the article and immediately find that, in this dude's view, it is ONLY WOMEN that can be too clingy. ok, sure guy, whatever you say.

then i actually read the article, and my revulsion grew even greater. by the time his fourth and last tip seemed like a legitimate one, it was too little, too late.

the majority of the 'news' type stuff on the yahoo main page is utterly worthless garbage.

Wow. I'm not one to really throw out phrases like, 'that's so patriarchal', but wow. That dude is a straight-up throwback.

omg, omg. I feel like I need to wash my brain out.

I'm so happy I now know that "he doesn't want you on him like a freshly dried sock."  ack.  I don't even know what to say to that, except I'd rather scrub encrusted mouse guts off the kitchen floor than spend an hour with that dude.

It's true, coldforge tends to stick with "That's so Raven".

Man, that dude needs to get smacked with a bag of oranges.

Oh, I forgot. Last night when I was out on my smoke break in the parking garage, I saw a car with the following bumper sticker:

EDUCATION TOO EXPENSIVE? TRY IGNORANCE

So, maybe I was interpreting it incorrectly, but if that isn't one of the most hateful bumper stickers I've ever seen. I mean, is that basically saying if you can't afford a college education, too fucking bad? I mean, that education being expensive is simply a fact of life? What about people who surely would like to attend college but may not have the means? WTF. Of course, it was right next to a Jesus Fish.

Actually, a quick google reveals that that quote is from Derek Bok, president of Harvard from 1971-1990 and author also of these quotes:

“There is far too much law for those who can afford it and far too little for those who cannot.”

“I won't say there aren't any Harvard graduates who have never asserted a superior attitude. But they have done so to our great embarrassment and in no way represent the Harvard I know.”

“I suspect that no community will become humane and caring by restricting what its members can say.”

He doesn't sound quite that hateful, anyway.

Of course, it was right next to a Jesus Fish.

Then perhaps it's not as hateful as you think and they are merely advocating the path they've chosen.

The only other way I can read that is "If you think education is too expensive, think about how much it costs you to be ignorant." Poorly worded, and probably not what it means, but in that context i choose to make it an attack on President Bush.

also, interim president post-Larry Summers.  he's alright (though perhaps I am biased as he signed my diploma...)  and I think in that quote he meant expensive for society, ie public funding of education, though of course it is easily misinterpreted.

I feel like absolute ass.  I didn't make it in to work today until 1:00 and I most definitely do not feel like going to class for 3 hours tonight.

Thanks dudes!  I'm debating skipping class, but I'd kind of feel guilty doing so during the first week it's in session...plus we only have a limited # of absences, so I tend to like to horde them for when absolutely necessary.  Hmm...I've got a while to decide.

Greg, if you honestly go about making that bumper sticker, please send one down here.  I'd slap that shit on my car in a heartbeat.

Of course, it was right next to a Jesus Fish.

i find in phoenix (where there are non-denominational mega church on every block in some areas it seems) that i'll typically find jesus fishes or christian slogans or stickers for their church on the biggest suvs or sometimes even luxury cars.  i was by a black acura yesterday that had that saying "wanna make laugh - tell him your plans" on its license plate tag, and a sticker for whatever church they belong to on their back window.  i don't really get it.  apparently these people's bible's excised the part about helping the poor, camel through the needle's eye etc.  or somehow in america, its a point of pride like "look at my display of external wealth.  God hooked me up with that shit"

i don't think that education slogan though was saying you had to go to $40,000 a year colleges.  just saying that education in the end is a little more empowering than not having it, and a better investment than dropping out of high school say.  (the fact that some of these colleges cost so much when they don't really need to is a separate matter) and the fact that it was next to a jesus fish seems kind of coincidental.  which maybe it is among these people who drive huge suv's, but i still get a little irritated anyway.
