auto - I may have missed the original post, but are you, like, doing a thesis on this shit or are you just way into, ahem, analyzing pornos?

Sort of in-between, I guess. On the academic front, it's really the social politics of porn I'm interested in. So I don't really have any training in textual analysis per se.

On the other hand, I am pretty fascinated by porn, both in terms of content and circumstances of production.

I suppose this thread is ready for lockdown, but not before one more Jess Franco movie. The beat-up old copy of his 1977 German movie Blue Rita I dredged up lacked subtitles, but I'm pretty sure it would have been incoherent even if I had caught the (rather sparse) dialogue. There are strippers, and they seem to also be spies; they kidnap men and sexually torture them, in an apparent effort to learn certain secrets. There are also many lesbian sex scenes.

I actually found this pretty compelling (a short 75-minute running time helped). Franco's visual style here is to bathe everything in garish primary colors, and a sex scene shot through a goldfish bowl proved quite striking.

I've said this before on multiple occasions, but I really want to see auto do the analysis/clipshow thing that he mentioned once, in passing -- I believe the general idea was Queer Moments In Ostensibly Straight Porn.

DOOOO IT AUTO

This is pretty lame, but I actually used this idea in a pathetic attempt to "flirt" with the girl who works at Mondo.
She brought up porn while I was there, so I was like, "Hey, you seem to know your porn. Do you know of straight porn movies from the 1970s that feature gay male sex, or even just homoerotic content?"

Her response was to point out the gay male porn section for me. So I tried to clarify, explaining that this was of a more academic interest to me and that I didn't just want a cover to provide access to gay sex scenes, but it pretty much sounded like I was pleading for my heterosexuality, and since I shouldn't really be attempting to flirt anyway (don't worry, folks, I love my lady and wouldn't stray!), I just sort of gave up and told her that I'd ask the pornographer who runs the place next time I see him.

So yeah, Greg, the dream is still alive.
