1. 17 years, thank you very much!!
2. I decided to watch them a year ago!
3. What the hell is the teddy bear with the spear in the forest? I like it. I like that she has to help him down from that tree as if he hadn't been getting around just fine without her.

Ewoks. I've always hated them, but apparently, I have no heart.

I don't know, man. I mean they certainly wouldn't be my first choice of pet. But if I was at a pound and I saw one sitting in the cage, staring at me with those about-to-be-euthanized eyes? I'd take it home and give it some food and a nice warm bed.

Beth, before you subjugate an Ewok to pet status, maybe you should take a little time to learn* about their
vibrant and complex culture.

Kicking and Screaming
. The Noah Baumbach one, not the Will Ferrell one. I spent the first 30 minutes totally grossed out by its pretentiousness, but it really won me over in the end. Both of his movies I've seen, though (the
Squid and the Whale
being the other one) have made me feel disgusting for being an English major, in an oh-god-I'm-not-actually-like-that-am-i? kind of way. I don't think any other films have ever made me feel this way except those two. I don't think I am so much like the people in this movie though. I don't actually wear tweed, ever.

WTF?!
I'm listening to the commentary track right now. Jodorowsky clearly had great time recording it.
edit:
He's claiming that George Harrison wanted to play the lead, but asked him to take out one scene. Since he wouldn't change the script, he went with another actor instead. He also claims to be the first actor to wear black nail polish.
(Does it sound like I dislike him? Because I don't. This commentary is wonderful. He's telling these stories in such a joyous way.)

FIGHTING ELEGY
this was so great. so much better than branded to kill, so much funnier and less dependent on style. i have surprisingly little to say about it other than that i enjoyed it thoroughly.
IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE
this was inexplicably disappointing to me, it was very pretty but ultimately i wasn't interested. it's disappointing that i was disappointed by it because i've heard nothing but gushing things about it.

I wish I could actually ask myself that without knowing the answer already.
"Oh, Max, what do you do?"
"Oh... I do nothing."
Anyway, last night, I saw the Korean movie "City of Violence." My roommate's lady is in Korea, and she sent him a whole slew of DVDs that are total mysteries to me. We were trying to pick one to watch last night, and it was a process of: "This one has a fat lady and a thin one next to some dude... I guess they're vying for his attention? This one has guys jumping and shooting guns in black and white... That could be promising. This one has a lady looking scared... But is she scared of something interesting or just some dude with a knife?"
So City of Violence was all right. Gangsters and fight scenes and such. morgan and Nick Ink, if I take a photo of the DVDs, will you tell me which ones you know of, and which I might enjoy?

So do they have subtitles or are you just winging it and making the plot up as you go along?

No, there are subtitles. Although I like the idea of us having to act out what we think the script might be.
"I AM ANGRY AT YOU!"
"I WILL PULL OUT A KNIFE NOW!"
"BUT NOW I WILL PULL OUT A GUN AN- OH WAIT, THIS IS ALSO A KNIFE"
"ALWAYS BRING A KNIVES TO THE KNIFE FIGHTS"
"OKAY"

That's what we used to do with Spanish soap operas in high school. Hell, who am I kidding, we still do that with Spanish soap operas. It's really quite fun.

hmmm. So I guess they'd be smart enough to use a litter box or something instead of having to be led outside on a leash. GOOD TO KNOW.

Just FYI there is an old lady on my block who takes her cat out for walks on a leash. I believe this was witnessed by one or more LPTJers but I cannot be sure. It is weird but very cute. I am not sure if the cat is retarded, 'cause really who could tell?

THE WOMAN WAS A BIT ORNERY AS WELL
The most ornery woman I ever encountered was in a Subway sandwich shop in NYC. She was wrapped in scarves and sat in an electric wheelchair. Her nurse parked her by the soda machine while she ordered lunch. I went to the soda machine to get a coke--I swear there was ample room for me to do so--and the old lady rasped "I'm sitting here, you black-eyed, cock-eyed whore!"
Most hilarious thing ever. my wife and I say it to each other all the time and it's been like three or four years since it happened.
