I actually put those in the "made movie suck" column, along with the rest of his performance. Movie was not very good, no sir.

What was worse to me was the complete toolness*of the director guy in the Making Of extra (I watch all the extras even if I hate the movie), and the way he was like "THIS IS A PARABLE OF OUR TIME AND ABOUT RACE RELATIONS AND EXPLORING HOW DIFFERENT PEOPLE ARE AND GETTING INTO THEIR MINDS AND STUFF AND ALSO JESUS AND LAZARUS AND THE RACES ALL CAME TOGETHER" when no, it was just really an excuse to film Christina Ricci running around in a pair of underpants that looked unsettlingly like a diaper.

*Ricci and Timberlake were also tools in the feature because of the overthinking/apologizing/whatever
as was John Singleton
but I still love Justin Timberlake

Very much so. I don't think I stopped grinning throughout. You know how sometimes you catch yourself with a grin a mile wide and you don't realise you've been smiling the whole time? It was like that.

there's a part in that movie where samuel jackson gets his guitar out and plays a blues number during a lightning storm. it's the worst thing filmed in the last couple years. it's way worse than the entirety of super ex girlfriend.
i say too much of what i watch!
this didn't happen. gonna go back to watching this subtitled noir french mystery murder x rated transgression commie film.

If it's been released on DVD they're gonna take your club card

I also really enjoyed DH4, though Justin Long was effing terrible. Not him so much as the character.

Diane Keaton is so amazingly hot in that movie.  I mean she was most of the time in the 70s, but in that one especially.  man.  what a bombshell she used to be.

I finished reading his book last night. I'd probably recommend getting it from the library if anyone's that interested. There's some interesting tidbits about his creative process in it, but it's mostly just him singing the praises of TM for quite some time. I guess I'd be more interested in exploring the whole TM thing if it didn't smack of a cult that costs $2500 for a basic membership...

All in all, interesting but not nearly worth $20.

Are you talking about Catching the Big Fish? Because it was on the 1/2 price bargain book rack at Borders, so I bought it for $3.00.  I got to page 45 while I was having coffee. I might finish it someday.

I'm like halfway through the second viewing of Inland Empire. I knew I missed something big the first time when the movie completely lost me after the first hour. (spoilered out) Laura Dern is two characters, right? The first time I saw it, I was all like "WTF? She used to be a prostitute but now she's married to the rich guy?  How does that happen? Who is Billy? When did all this happen, cause she doesn't look any younger."  I still think it's weird for the sake of being weird (moreso than most Lynch, even), but it falls into place better now. I hate how the volume keeps getting loud at intervals. Thankfully I don't have to worry about waking the neighbors, but it still annoys me a bit. Mostly I liked it, though. Not quite as much as everything else he's done, but still good.

I think Dern's character's more like: in some of the scenes, she's acting in the movie they're filming, in some scenes, she's being herself, in others she's/the movie's just batshit crazy.
That's what I got out of it anyway.  Seriously, for the first hour I was like "okay, I'm getting this.  Then the following two hours, I was just like WTF, enraptured the whole time.  I need to see it again.

i watched Apocalypto last night.  i half expected to be bored with it and walk away within the first half hour, but it held my attention pretty much throughout.  it was a pretty entertaining action movie, although i could have done without some of the excessively gory scenes, like a jaguar eating a dude's face off.  i thought the conquistadors at the end was a little bit of a bail out, but it was a pretty engaging movie imo.  i watched the 'behind the scenes' featurette on the dvd and it sounded like mel and his associates were a little more entranced with mayan civilization and recreating it, than they were concerned with creating some kind of allegory to our times.  also i'm pretty sure that the 'no animals were harmed during the making of this film' did not apply to this movie.  there was only one deleted scene, but it was this image of a sick looking deer stumbling around, and mel gibson on the commentary was like "yeah, the animal wranglers taught the deer to stumble around like that, like it was injured"  those must have been some talented animal wranglers.

This is the exact opposite of my take on the movie.

I watched Hot Fuzz for the second time today, 'cause my roommate hadn't seen it.  It was fun to witness his reaction to the movie, which was exactly the same as mine when I first saw it:  "This is good, this is funny, what a nice little movie, OH FUCK SHIT JUST GOT REAL"

I have not seen it but jaguar eating a dude's face off sounds pretty awesome to me.

I haven't seen The Passion of the Christ either but dude getting the shit kicked out of him and then nailed up and left to die and stabbed sounds fucking brutal too.

I've been thinking about this on and off all day. Now I'm confused again. I can't make your reading of it work for me. I'm not up to watching it again just yet, though, so I put on Animal House.

it bored you, but you enjoyed the facial mauling?   Smile  there was a random monkey fight in the movie too.  i don't know how they staged that, or if its one of the first times in cinema there's been a fight between two animals almost totally unrelated to the action of the movie.

i watched Dark Heritage last night. its some horrible horror movie based off an HP Lovecraft story. it was shockingly faithful to the story, even though they didnt credit Lovecraft anywhere. being faithful to the source material couldnt overcome its extreme shortcomings in every other possible area though. just to show you the quality level we're talking here, on the DVD menu the title of the movie is spelled Drak Heritage. i mean really.

This was the only good scene in the movie!

No, that's a pretty common feature of 1970s Italian cannibal movies! I never knew Umberto Lenzi and Ruggero Deodato might be considered as influences on Mel Gibson, but I take some inexplicable pleasure in the notion.

Superbad is really funny. I'm quite sad that I don't know anyone who wanted to see it with me at the movies, actually, because that one would've been more fun in the theatre than in front of the computer, but still, really funny.

This could be my geekiest post ever.

I saw Zodiac this weekend, and I liked it a lot--my favorite film of 2007 so far, though given that I've only seen five movies from the year, that doesn't mean too much. But you know what really got me pumped up? This brief shot, of Jake Gyllenhaal clipping out a newspaper article:

I got all excited and started shouting, "Hey! I know that article from somewhere! I swear, I have a copy of it for some reason!" Gaby wasn't too interested, but check it out, y'all, straight from my file cabinet:

The reason I have this is, I think, obvious, and unrelated to the Zodiac.

Not really a good reason to get all giddy mid-film, but then, I'd like to think giddiness is simply an inherently good thing.

I am completely shocked that they used an actual newspaper and not some mocked-up movie prop. I'm also happy to know this tiny piece of useless trivia about the movie, because I strongly believe that one's head can never be too full of tiny pieces of useless trivia.
